Re: Kestrel's Spotting Thread

Hello all!

Returned from Heathrow yesterday night after a great couple of days away, currently working through the photos so expect them to be posted in the coming days.

Before that though, a photo from the drive home. On my last visit to EMA I wanted to see an Aerologic 777F, unfortunately it was 4 hours delayed so I didnt see it. I stopped at Donnington services (next door to east midlands) on the way home from London and thanks to some brilliant timing, this 777F happened to be moments away from turning finals! There was also a pair of Cargojet 767s on the ground too, 2 new registrations for me!

Nice AeroLogic 777, I think their livery looks better than the Lufthansa parent livery on the 77F!

I agree, the Aerologic livery is so minimalist but it works well. One thing I've never understood is why Lufthansa has their own Cargo airline and Aerologic, I know Aerologic is primarily used for DHL operations but whats stopping them from keeping both airlines under the same brand

Re: Kestrel's Spotting Thread

Lets get on with the Heathrow pics then. They wont be in any particular order and were taken from the Marriott Renaissance Hotel on the 5th and 6th of September.

I wont be posting literally everything else there would be pages and pages of Speedbird baby busses

Re: Kestrel's Spotting Thread

Lovely pic! Although it seems you still have to learn a bit more about photo editing. But that's ok, practice and time are always your friends!

BTW, spotting at Heathrow is something which I really don't look forward to do anymore, after BA retired their 747 fleet... been there in 2011, was hoping to visit again to catch the 3 retro Jumbos, but now there's nothing too appealing to me anymore.

Thank you Leo and yes my editing leaves a lot to be desired. I wish my photos looked as good as yours!

Iíve visited Heathrow many times in previous years and have never really done any spotting but due to covid my local airport was closed for over a month and traffic is still very much reduced so now Heathrow seemed much more interesting

Re: Kestrel's Spotting Thread

If the ANA picture is sharp than you have a great foundation. With due time your editing skills will become better and better, don't worry about that. Your photos already have great potential and I'm looking forward to it!

Thank you, with regards to sharpness, Im temped to switch back to my previous camera and get my 7D2 looked at by a specialist, recently focus issues have been getting worse and worse to the point even images of static objects are soft.

Re: Kestrel's Spotting Thread

Recently Swiss has been using pretty much it's entire fleet to LHR providing a nice variety of types for spotters!

Re: Kestrel's Spotting Thread

The ANA B777 is a beautiful view, something i will never see at FCO!
The Swiss A330-300 seems particularly dirty and this is bad for an airline with a such elegant livery and a such particular white (don't ask me what i mean, i only know that Swiss white is particular and make it extremely elegant).
Compliments for the pics.

Thank you, the Swiss was particularly dirty sadly...

Re: Kestrel's Spotting Thread

Did you stay at the Renaissance Hotel? The room views are so nice. I'd much prefer to spot there than going to Myrtle Avenue, for example. While the pics with the houses are great and really iconic of Heathrow, some of the skyshots i've seen on the internet are so boring

The CargoLogic Jumbo was a sweet catch indeed!

The CLA 747 is a neat one, glad to see their licenses back in order and their 747s plowing the planet again!

Indeed it was the Renaissance, It was a nice change being able to go spotting but crawl into the bed 3ft away from the window when I fancied it I did visit Myrtle but it was just to get a quick photo of my car on the street to say Id been there and didnt actually see anything land.

Is there anything you would recomend trying to make my photogrpahy and editing better?
