Those "easier programmes" are also a trap since most Lufthansa booking classes aren't eligible anymore on those programs. It makes me crying when I see that my BRU-MUC-BRU in economy light gave me much more miles than my roundtrip BRU-MUC-ARN-VIE-BRU in paid business class...

And let's be honest, Lufthansa business class is really mediocre (especially the lounges)

If you fly 32 times it earns you the FTL Status, but not Gold if, true.
For LH Gold you needed 100.000 Miles a year if I remember correctly.

But for me wasnt such a big problem, I was in the air in average 2 flights per week and usually LH or at least Star Alliance. If you add then to the usual short hauls in Europe at least 3-4 USA and maybe 2 other long hauls like Asia and Mid America you are in.
Look, this year already earned 65.000 Miles and I stopped flying for business mid April with the Round the World loop with Singapore Airlines and SAS goin via USA / EWR to SIN and then back to Europe.

I honestly enjoyed Lufthansa business Class, it wasnt that bad. Also SAS and Turkish Airlines was nice, Singapore airlines on SQ21 was of course a stunner.
But I think LH is a good and stable product.
agree on the Lounges, they could overall be better, despite the Senator one is still a bunch better than FTL, but again that depends on the airport.

But burn those miles wisely! They can be oh-so valuable.

Yes, any time, drop me a line.

Honestly, didnt know that LATAM is part of Sky Team. With those south Americans, I got completely got lost since the merger.

For your Sky Team of course makes sense, I had Sky Team (still have it, but usually avoid them) when I lived in Rotterdam. But as back in Hamburg and Air Berlin gone anyway (didnt like them, but they were One World), Star Alliance was and is the best option for me to fly. I can reach easily at least 6 hubs with direct fllights few times a day (like FRA, MUC, BRU, ZRH, VIE, CPH and LHR). So perfect for me (at least it was)....

Re: Trips for 2020

SkyTeam works very well for me, but I don't mind connecting at CDG for extra points and miles (or a superior business class product on the long haul!).

LATAM isn't part of SkyTeam, its leaving OneWorld in 2020. That flight doesn't yield any miles to KLM's program, but a nice way to get around Europe for sure

I have an appointment at Interpersonal in Hamburg on Monday the third. Since flights to HAM on Sunday were way cheaper out of AMS I booked a cheap high speed train ticket from Brussels to Schiphol. As for the part to DRS, I figured out that since I was in Hamburg I could take a cheap EW flight to make a day trip the the beautiful city of Dresden

Re: Trips for 2020

Hi all
I have a trip to USA coming up in may flying via FRA to either JFK/EWR or BOS.
I can choose from flying Air Canada or Lufthansa. I have flown LH many times before onboard their A340's.
However i'm curious if any of you have tried to fly on the following airlines/aircraft.
Flying Air Canada will get me on a 787-9 via YUL and a 777-300ER via YYZ back home.
If I choose Lufthansa, I can choose the good old 747-400 to BOS or the 747-8/A380 to EWR/JFK.
Which one is better? I know the 747-400 is old so it may be hard to compare with newer airframes.

Hope you can help me out with some advise.

I have flown that route quite often in past 2 years...really depends also a bit on which class you fly ?

Why dont you route it Inbound using the 747-8, which is really nice and then Outbound AC 787 via YUL. I had flown AC first time in Feb 2018 and was really super happy with their C Class product. If you fly premium eco, not sure AC has this on board. The Prem Eco on LH's 747-8 is ok to fly to the US.

Thank you very much! It will be in normal Economy Class.
Have you flown Lufthansa 747-400 and 747-8? Which one do you prefer? The 747-400 is rare (and old) and will soon no longer be in the sky, where the 747-8 is modern and (i believe) more comfortable.
Every time I fly long haul I always end up in a 777 or A330, so now this time I really would like to try something else.

Yes, have flown the 744 regular in/out DTW & ORD, the 330 Outbound from JFK to TXL and 747-8 in/Outbound EWR/IAD. Mostly in C or Prem Eco though, so not too sure how the Y Class Looks like. Since LH keeps their jets usually in good shape, I dont think there will be huge differences. I had modern seats and IFE alread also on the 744's, but possibly depends on if the a/c was refitted already. So if you want to be safe, try to choose the 747-8 or also try to split here between -400 and -8. If you Choose an -8 flight, you might be lucky to catch the Retro Bird. I had flown some of their -8's and also managed to get Special ones, but unfortunately never the Retro.
I personally like the -8 more, it Looks more slim and elegant in my opinion.
