Complaints about missing models etc...

The problem with most sites is that the database is often filled with so many scales (Look here at wings900 / DA.C and you will find listings for 46 different scales with several more in the pipeline) and the need to constantly update each and every scale.

Added to that is most volunteers want to be involved with the popular scales and no-one wants to do the research and documentation for the more obscure scales and you can slowly see why this database is slowly drifting and while it is often said that more information is good, it also means often alot more information is missing in action!

Back in the day when this site was truely Wings500 or even wings900 (a combination of scale 500 and 400) it was definitely more complete. I'm NOT suggesting we go back to those days and throw out the rest, more that each scale should have it's own sub-site and own volunteer making entries into the database, it would make the job both more interesting from a volunteer stand point and also allow a collector from each scale to find all that is possible for that scale.

The current script running the site is so screwed that I often personally end up having to load information and photos several times, before it sticks. Also photos that members place with the"Submit a model" listing often get rejected when submitting a new model into the system (even when the photo is the correct size and pixels) and need to be saved off site and then copied over once the model information is approved...) It ALL adds to the fustration of keeping the Database up to date.

Added to that the many thousands of errors and mistakes (Don't get me started on that - I just spent 3 days fixing all Boeing entries from B 747-800 to the correct B 747-8 along with fixing B 787-800 and B 787-900 to the correct B 787-8 and B 787-9...). Also alot of Airlines are incorrectly named in the Database along with incorrect Boeing customer codes, incorrect engines, incorrect manufacturers part numbers (often what is listed is ARD distrubtion numbers and not the actual makers part numbers...), incorrect Aircraft Frames, and of course missing photos.

There are several Database Researchers on here, sadly several seem to want to work only on the popular scales... Not withstanding mmu69 who does a Brilliant job on all 1:500 scale model.

Any member reading my rambling post here and thinking of volunteering for one of the other scales (besides 1:400 or 1:500) please, please send me a PM. The proposal is for volunteers to look are each of the popular scales (1:48, 1:72, 1:100, 1:144, 1:200, 1:250, 1:300, 1:600 and hopefully also several others to look after grouped entries, such as everything between 1:2 to 1:46 etc through the entire 46 different scales...

This is why sometimes it may take alittle longer for new models to appear on the database... There is ALOT going on in the background...

Cheers Lou

Thanks for that, Lou. This kind of change should really be achieved programmatically rather than one by one…

It seems that customer codes are only used for the 747-8, but not for the 787.

mmu69....It will be for the B787 when all three versions are flying. The B789 in 1/400s have already been released. 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10.

At great risk to myself (using the hospital computer) the simple answer is yes! Here is the link to it in the database:

Re: Complaints about missing models etc...

Hehehe... no... it's not missing, I knew as soon as I saw your link, because I own this model and I have it in my listings. Best if you looking for something a little different to look for it under its rego number along with maker and scale....

Gemini Jets 1:400 EG & G CT-43A - Wings900 ID# 13348

The catch to finding this model quickly is seeking out its Military listing, this case being a CT-43A rather then looking for the commercial equivelent a B 737-200

Cheers Lou... from Hospital... still!

I think we're referring to different things.

There are 787-8s, 787-9s, and 787-10s.

There is however no 787-822, 787-836, or 787-881.
