1/500 San Diego International Airport SAN
I am starting to build a 1/500 scale airport based on San Diego International Airport. I have started with the newest part of the airport, Terminal 2 West.
Still lots of painting to do, but I am hoping to schedule some flights here by the end of the month.

What did you use for the terminal building?

Beautiful! Realistic! Detailed! I love the surface texture of the terminal, the offset of the windows, and the inclusion of all of the building's complex forms. I wish you would give a tutorial on your methods--we would love and appreciate it !
Thanks for sharing this amazing project.

Looks amazing! I loved my time in San Diego in the summer of last year, the airport was very good looking and spacious. This diorama recollects my good memories from SAN airport!

Re: 1/500 San Diego International Airport SAN
That is all detailed from my 3D printer. I have the terminal put together with about 10 different sections that attach together. I even have the thousands of solar panels up on the roof. I am hoping to custom print the boarding gates soon. For now, I am using part of the standard Herpa Wing gates, some of which are a little too high for my RJ's.
As I do more painting, I'll add some more photos.

Amazing job, the terminal building seems the real one scaled at 1:500!
Great design, did you use epoxy resin?

I am using Grey PLA for my 3D printer to make the terminal buildings.
I've attached a few more photos after doing some painting today.

Re: 1/500 San Diego International Airport SAN
Another question: how did you achieve the texture of your apron? I think the slight surface roughness, and lack of gloss, is simply a fantastic look. One more element of a great-looking airport!

Re: 1/500 San Diego International Airport SAN
All hand painted. Taking forever!!!
4 different shades of flat paint, both oil and acrylic. And then scotch tape in a grid pattern.
I still have the other side of the tarmac to paint, and at San Diego, that section of the airport has smaller tiles. Going to take a lot longer

Some more progress this week on SAN, working on more of the tarmac painting.

Was there a special technique to achieve the "grout lines" (seams) in between the tiles. I mean, the effect is brilliant--among the best I've ever seen!!!

Re: 1/500 San Diego International Airport SAN
All hand painted with different shades of grey.
The lines may just be the edge gaps on the tape I used in some of the areas.
