Vienna "Schwechat" Airport (VIE) 1:500.

Ciao.
I am planning to realize Vienna "Schewechat" Airport - Terminal 3/Pier North.
Why? I was missing a big European hub where to display the many models of European airlines.
Laudamotion is missing, even if i hope Herpa will finally produce it, many Austrian Airlines models are missing (and what a pity Herpa did not realize the B737-600, B737-700WL and B737-800WL, some wonderful airplanes in Austrian Airlines livery), but "hope never dies" so...
Why Terminal 3/Pier North? Because it is the international/intercontinental terminal and the traffic at VIE is amazing!
The second reason is because the terminal building is quite easy to realize.

This layout is a special tribute to my dear friend Robert: i hope he will like what i will realize, even because he works at VIE knowing the airport very well.

Re: Vienna "Schwechat" Airport (VIE) 1:500.

Now some infos.
Let me consider the Pier North into two parts: north (up) and south (down).
As you can see from the pics i started with the "south part": there are five widebodies parking stands, F01, F05, F13, F23 and F33, each 90 meters wide = 18 cm in 1:500 scale. Only F01 is 80 meters wide (16 cm in 1:500 scale), but my terminal building is 70 cm long = 350 meters in the real scale (the real Pier North is about 500 meters long = 1 meter in 1:500 scale).
Then there are eight narrwobodies positions: F03, F09, F11, F17, F21, F27, F31, F37.
F03 and F09 are respectively on the left and right of F05, F11 and F17 on the left and right of F13, F21 and F27 on the left and right of F23, F31 and F37 on the left and right of F33.
Both narrowbodies parking stand in each "widebodies parking stand" are situated at about 20 meters from the white border line of each 90 meters wide parking stand.
Among the two narrowbodies parking stands there are about 45 meters of distance = 9 cm in 1:500 scale.
All these sizes are necessary to understand how the apron works and how/where the parking stands must be situated, important also for the jetways position.

The Italian flag carrier doesn't fly to VIE!
What are they waiting to close this Alitalia creating a serious Italian airline?!!!

Looks very good! Just a question, what is Pier nord? In VIE there is terminal 3 with gates F and G serving most Star alliance flights and terminal 1 with gates B, C and D. I’ve mever heard of piers north and south.

That's terminal 3 (gates F and G). I wasn't aware it was also called pier north (which is very weird since that pier is not located north at all) :)

The explanation, from Robert, is:
"Pier North is called for the airside and the ramp, Terminal 3 for landside and passengers".

Your ramp and apron markings are outstanding, and when combined with the terminal, the airport is a beautiful sight. So many airlines can be represented here--it will be much fun to watch this progress over time. Great work!!

Thanks so much as always my friend, thanks for your nice words and your appreciation. Positive rep. added.
I started to realize the "north side" considering it about the same of "south side"...completely wrong. The size of the parking spaces are different so i have to re-work everything.

Re: Vienna "Schwechat" Airport (VIE) 1:500.

Looking at north side of the terminal and making the measures i really understand how and why Neil Armstrong used the manual controls landing on the Moon: the computer was driving the LEM in an area full of craters so Neil decided to drive the LEM by himself landing in a better zone.
I am facing with the same problem: looking at Google Maps i took the measures of the real airport, as i have done for the south side.
The parking stands are: F36, F32, F26, F22, F16, F12, F08, F04, where F16, F26 and F36 are for widebodies.
Here there is a strange thing: if i look Google Maps in 2D the apron is like the real one, if i click on the "world vision" (even 3D) the parking stands are different from the real apron, it is like it has been updated and before there have only been narrowbodies parking stands.
But let me return on the measures: as you can see the parking stands overlap each other except for F12, F08, F04; i measured the distance among the yellow parking lines, and they should have been at the same distance from the eight jetways. Not even by idea!!! The jetways in north and south sides of the terminal building are at the same level, so if Google Maps measures perfectly work for south side they should perfectly work for north side...2 + 2 = 4...nothing to do.
The distance from the service road to F36 is about 40 meters = 8 cm in 1:500 scale
The distance from F36 to F32 is about 50 meters = 10 cm
The distance from F32 to F26 is about 50 meters = 10 cm
The distance from F26 to F22 is about 45 meters = 9 cm
The distance from F22 to F16 is about 50 meters = 10 cm
The distance from F16 to F12 is about 45 meters = 9 cm
The distance from F12 to F08 is about 45 meters = 9 cm
The distance from F08 to F04 is about 50 meters = 10 cm
These measures don't work: the yellow parking lines move further and further away from the jetways.
So i have to "manually take controls" of my layout.
Thanks Neil!!!
