1/500 Project: Honolulu Daniel K. Inouye International Airport of mid 2000s

Hi guys,

I am back after my Munich model more than three years ago. I had a child, moved to Hamburg, got sick, separated from my wife but now at least I am back at building airports. I started with a small one I always wanted to do: Honolulu. As some of you know, I love the palm trees, I love liveries like Hawaiians, and I love those Boeing 767s and 757s of the 2000s. More than this 80x90cm model does not really fit into my small new flat. Yet, I am already working on a bigger Bahrain model, let's see how this one pans out. Anyway, I am glad to be back, I hope you enjoy the pictures, there will be more to come, I have to get my ANA and JAL 767s from the storage, because what is HNL without your Japanese Boeings!? I have seen pictures with 5 JAL 747s there at once.

Of course, there is always something new to learn with each model. This time I had to build mega big trees in the central garden area. I used wire and grass for it and I am very happy with them. You cannot buy trees of that size anywhere, so I am very pleased it worked out that well. I needed that volume in the trees and they compliment the palm trees I use (samtrees from Hong Kong) very well in my opinion.

I look forward to hearing your feedback.
Best regards,
Paul

The level of detail of your airports is simply awesome. If one day I finally could have time and resources to make my own airport, yours will sure be among those to be source of inspiration.

Paul, when I clicked the thread for the first time I had no idea it was one of your works, but when I saw the detail in your craftmanship I knew it could br only from you. The colouring of the building is excellent and reminds me of the many photos I've seen from HNL.

Yessss! Welcome back, Paul! It's really wonderful to see your beautiful creations again, and you really never disappoint! A beautiful airport, congratulations!
The amount of details is simply fantastic, and surely an inspiration for other collectors, including me. Please, don't hesitate to add more pictures of this beauty. The idea of Honolulu is wonderful!

Excellent work! You have really captured the realism with your use of
foliage and GSE. The Hawaiian purple and pink are such standout colours. I look forward to seeing a B717 and your Japanese Boeings arriving!

Wonderful project.
It is one of the most beautiful views of an handmade airport, perhaps because of the trees and the terminal building, perhaps because of the exotic location, perhaps because of the traffic...i don't know but it is really gorgeous.

Another gorgeous set of photos Paul. Just out of curiosity, apart from traffic, are there any other changes regarding your HNL diorama and the real thing in 2019?

Re: 1/500 Project: Honolulu Daniel K. Inouye International Airport of mid 2000s

This is a wonderful airport you have Paul! Everything is nicely detailed and looks to be of great build quality - you've really captured the tropical atmosphere of Honolulu with this diorama. Really nice to see some of these older liveries again too and especially the JAL B747-400!

Thanks for sharing your work!
