New York Metropolitan International Airport

Welcome to New York Metropolitan International Airport!

New York Metropolitan International Airport is a hand-made 1:400 Scale international airport located in New York State serving New York City. The airport features a single large passenger terminal with two wings, joined in the middle by a central arrivals and departures hall. The passenger terminal offers 23 gates: 10 small, 2 medium, 9 large and 2 extra large gates. To the east of the passenger terminal, the airport also features a small cargo terminal offering 2 large parking stands and 1 medium parking stand, making the terminal capable of handling both international and domestic air freight.

Flight schedules and the airlines you will see operating at the airport are based mostly on those from New York's own John F. Kennedy, with some additional flights taken from Newark Liberty and La Guardia. The airport currently handles around 200 flights per day, with additional capacity at the gates to handle more in the future. Fictional routes have been kept to an absolute minimum in the interest of creating an authentic display. New York Metropolitan International Airport is a primary hub for Delta Air Lines who own 7 gates, a secondary hub for American Airlines who own 3 gates, and a tertiary hub for jetBlue who currently operate their flights from the domestic and regional gates in the West Wing. FedEx Express also operate a small hub operation out of the cargo terminal located on the east side of the airport.

Anyway, it must be time for some photos! You'll see some overviews of the diorama first, before moving on to a more traditional airport update-style post with traffic commentary. Enjoy!

Cal, this is simply fabulous...there is so much to love and admire from your US Diorama...I had a feeling that you'd choose New York, considering your fleet!!! Your Air Canada A321 is on my radar now but, I'll probably pick it up from Canada or on my return...I'm sure it wasn't so difficult as you perhaps already must have had a few models you require for this project, my friend!!!

Very nice airport you have there! I like the layout alot! I must say that the Aer Lingus and the TK A330's are my favourite of the bunch, aswell as the KL 789. Keep the updates coming, I'll be looking forward to them!

Thanks for the kind words Homzie, I hope it was worth the wait! It had to be New York - the balance of European/South American/Asian/Middle East traffic was perfect for my already substantial collection of widebodies. I've swapped, added and removed many models in my collection to make this diorama possible, but I definitely had a head start! The Air Canada A321 is a very nice model - I also picked up an Air Canada B737-8, with both joining the B787-8 which was already in my collection. I hope you can find a nice model shop during your visit to Canada to pick up some of these aircraft!

Thanks for commenting, I'm glad you like the airport! Quite a few A330's featured this time, but I have to agree, the Aer Lingus and Turkish examples are particularly nice. I personally also find the simplicity of the Finnair livery quite elegant on both the A330 shown here and on their A350's. The KLM B787-9 is equally nice and hopefully someone will release the longer B787-10 in the KLM livery soon! I'll be sure to start working on some more updates and I'll hope to read more comments from you in the future!

Thanks Ale!

Exciting to see your works after discussing it for a while. It seems your US airlines-portfolio has expanded nicely and there's a good variety of US carriers. I'm certain the likes of Alaska will join the scenery too? your diorama is set-up nicely with a clean and interesting design.

Wow, a cool setup. Love the landside feature. The GJ airbridges suit this very well. An excellent selection of traffic too. Maybe one day I will venture into more US models.

Thanks Thom, I hope the diorama lived up to your expectations after our discussions! The layout and building construction is much cleaner this time, which I'm very happy about. Of course Alaska Airlines will be featuring, I already have an Alaska A319 and A320 in my collection! I've managed to pick-up models from most of the US carriers, but one of Spirit's bright yellow 'Airbuses' has so far eluded me..!

Thanks for the comment Adam, glad you like my new setup! The landside section is great, I really wanted to include this in some form this time and I think it worked out quite well overall. You're right, the grey Gemini jet-bridges are the perfect fit for this diorama. If you ever decide to venture into US models, I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised at the great variety of types and liveries you will uncover!

Thanks Mike, great to get your seal of approval! I think the Aer Lingus A330 looks really smart in their new livery - it'd be cool to see this one in some of your mish-mashes if you decide to pick one up!

Wonderful airport Cal! Such a nice variety of airlines and cargo aircraft. I also was thinking of making an American airport diorama as I have started to build North American airlines fleets but I don't have a lot of time at the moment.

Cal, like I said on my thread, I'm going to pick up the Orange Expo A6-EOU from DXB Airport soon and perhaps order a couple of models to my cousin's house in Calgary too ;)
