Quick airport build

Hey guys, long time no see in thie airports section! I decided on a recent day off to repurpose an old ikea desk into a small "quick and dirty" diorama, it needs more work and a lot of extra ground detailing, but it's a nice stop gap until i can start on my major airport project. Enjoy the pictures!

Re: Quick airport build

WOW Daniel, this is another excellent and well detailed airport thread in this forum! I know that this is just the beginning and it may only be a stop gap but it looks good!!! Your major airport diorama will be very interesting as you have so many great models (based at DXB) in your collection...and ofcourse, like many others, I'll be following your new airport thread even when I'll be in Canada from the end of this month!!! I like the terminal, my friend!

Re: Quick airport build

So i've decided to create my own airline based at my airport, i call it Larkair. Our first 2 aircraft will go to the charter arm of the business, currently we plan to have 2 A320's and 1 A321 in mainline and in the charter side of the business we have 1 737-300 and 1 MD83. Only the 737 will be painted in the full livery for now since the MD83 is only a stopgap until more aircraft can be acquired, enjoy the pictures!

Re: Quick airport build

Larkair...an airline for me! Great idea and thanks for realizing a charter airline, especially using two amazing airplanes like the Mad Dog and the B737 classic, airplanes Herpa seems to have forgotten (sadly real for the B737 classic, less real for the MD-80).
The customa are beautiful, positive rep. added because deserved and because i am very disappointed for Herpa decision not to produce the B737 classic.

Larkair's livery looks very good. Plenty of design talent went into that!

Thank you all, honestly no talent involved, more just type the words on a word document and trace the lines of the lark in colour and hey presto, we have a livery! It went through many design changes, originally being green and named "Richair" but on the face of it it sounds kind of exclusive and snobby, so my hometown came to my mind and hey presto! The yellow is actually chosen because the breast colour of the Lark bird is Yellow, with the rest of the bird being brown, you can see in the interior of the bird the small lines are yellow at the top and brown at the bottom, though the camera might not be picking them up too well!

Hope you had a good flight mate! Haven't flown into BOM for a long long time, in fact i've only ever flown it once, i mainly get BLR/HYD for the Indian destinations. Hoping for more BOm in the next few months after the monsoon gets over, it's a great experience due to the busyness of the airport and surrounding airspace!

Re: Quick airport build

This is already a good-looking airport for a "quick-build." Great work!!
I really like Lark-Air--having a customized airline adds a great touch of interest to the project. I have a question--how do you apply those markings to the model aircraft? I want to do something similar for my current diorama.
Pete

P.S.: I lived in Dubai (right on the Deira side of the creek!) for several years in the early 1990's, and have been back many times. Always incredible to re-visit and note the ongoing changes and improvements.

Thanks a lot! Larkair are coming along nicely, the first 2 Airbuses for mainline have already arrived and been repainted!

They're done using clear waterslide decal paper, and having the original markings removed with acetone nail polish remover and the engines/sharklets painted with spray paint, i'd love to in time work out a way to tampo print the colours since there is still an outline of the decal, but for a first go these looks pretty good to me

UAE must've changed a lot since you first came, even since i first came in 2003 and after i moved out here in 2014, some places have buildings popped up in the last few years that i didn't even know existed! I'm actually living an Ajman, Dubai is much too expensive and since i'm based out of Sharjah/Ras Al Khaimah airport, the traffic and travel distance is a big problem!

Speaking of Larkair and their new Airbuses...

And here they are after roll out! Still awaiting registration and small titles but looking pretty good so far!

Posing with the rest of the Larkair family fleet, hopefully there will be more to come!

Very simple airport but still very cool. A nice selection of aircraft that you have selected. The customs look really great too. I hope to see them in action very soon! I look forward to the developments.
