No, Herpa currently uses Netmodels mould...

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

That really sucks. I have about twenty BB models. Luckily, none of them have had any issues. I figure that either I'm storing them correctly, or they just don't have any issues. I did buy a Lufthansa Star Alliance 747 with a couple of slight paint cracks, but it's nothing too terrible. Just keep your suspected models sealed in their trays, and try not to expose them to too much air. The metal is the problem, but less exposure to the elements helps out a lot.

Geminijets 1:400 British airways 747-436 G-CIVY

Is this zinc rot and is their anything I can do about it? I managed to bend the wing back into shape but the winglet is still bent...

Perhaps this thread should be moved to the General Squawk Talk section?

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

My Dragon Wings ASIANA World cup 2006 B747-400 also suffer serious paint bubble problem, does anybody here have the same issue on this model? I have over 30 DragonWings model but this one is the most serious. I put it inside the box all the time and few years later I got this when I opened the box. I guess this is due to the impurities during the manufacturing process. The whole body developed grainy texture and paint cracks on the rear part below the vertical stabilizer.

Hi!
Isn't Dragon Wings a manufacturer of 1:400 models? This is 1:500 scale discussion

Zinc-rot on Inflight500 models
Received second-hand. Unfortunately the seller did not check the underside of the models.
I never saw reports of this on Inflight500 models before...

** L-1011 TWA New Colors - IF5112007
** B747-200 Aerolineas Argentinas - IF5742005

The 747 has a long crack from the wing to the rear and cracks around the front gear.
Not sure if this is zinc-rot or another metal defect ?!?!

NOTE: I see that in 2013 there is mention to the defect on Vosen for the TWA...
And also here you can see cracks on the blue area underneath the model: http://www.wings900.com/vb/1-500-sca...tml#post701257

As Flight said it may be better to move it to the Squawk Talk section but both scales suffer from it so does it really matter?....

The thing to remember here is that it could very well just be paint defects. My TWA L-1011 also has these cracks in the paint, but as they are only found on the blue parts i don't think it's anything to worry about. The cracks don't even go into the gold stripe that separetes the blue from the red. Or indeed into the red.

If the cracks had been found in other places aswell, then i would be worried.

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

Ok, this is going pretty much against my previous post, but i have only just today noticed that my America West 757-200 in Ohio livery has paint bubbles on the fuselage, in both the red, white, and blue paint. But only at the rear, behind the wings. I tried to photograph it, but the pics aren't very good:

It is possible that these bubbles have been there since before i bought the model, i can't remember. I am a bit worried, but as the model was released in 2004 and is still intact, what do you guys think?

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

I have the same problem with my Netmodels Alitalia Cargo 742 and JAL 741, but this has not been getting worse over a few years since I bought the models. I hope this is only the matter of paint.
