Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

I bought this Alitalia model second hand. Having received it I noticed paint bubbles in the rear section of the fuselage. I hope it is not zinc rot. If I am wrong, this is the first example of the problem in Netmodels that i know of. The model was made in 2004 so theoretically it should not be affected.

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

If it was from early 2004...i know most manufactures start production of a model about 3-5 months before the release date, so it might have been made in 03 but marketed in 04.

You are right! I meant 2004 but wrote 2003 as the zinc rot problem apearred between 2002 and 2003.

I also recall the zinc rot problem is also more common in early 2003 than late 2003. Recall the time frame was late 2002 to late 2003.

I've owned my Bigbird BA 747 world tails for years and haven't noticed any problems. They've been on display in my cabinet for months and still look mint if that helps reassure anyone.

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

Sorry if this is the wrong scale, but idk if this is zinc rot:

AC Tu-154:
Lot Polish, Egyptair, Aeroflot-Don ra-85527, balkan bulgarian

I checked all those and found nothing, other than a crooked front gear with a little crack in the middle.

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

I recently bought the AC 767-300 in the 2004 colours, I haven't seen any zinc rot as of yet.

Should I be worried, it hasn't been in direct sunlight (unsure if this causes it) urm but I guess I need to keep a close on it?

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

Contact with sunlight won't have an affect. I recently found one of my BA world tails suffering from the bubbles. Checked everything else and they were in mint condition. Can we make a sticky with a list of models that have been affected thus far?

Or a comment/dedicated field in the database? This is probably not exclusive to 1:500.

This would be best. Other scales are also involved.

Re: Report your zinc-rot affected models please!

This is scary... how long does it take the symptoms to appear after production?

We know that it affects models produced between late 2002 and early 2003.
