Re: Fossil Awards

I would go with nuclear power it is very efficeint and IT Saves alot of $ It might cost to Make the power plant but Nuclear power can be refined Its called a reprocessing plant,a lump of uranium 235 can amount to a few tons of coal.

Well, there is Carbonic acid from the seas absorbing higher than natural levels (there's a natural balance of it, hence CW's Tree thing, and trees, etc can absorb much more, but sooner or later, something will give) that has helped to acidify the oceans so far. Not much of a consequence for anyone unless you are a Coral or something though

It seems rather ironic that every time the Earth has had a warming period civilizations THRIVED and now when it starts to warm up again people freak out and believe the end is near.
It won't be the end for most, unless you live somewhere beside the sea or in the middle of Africa where you'll simply cook. Most of the problem is that it will affect nature much more than ourselves, and well, we rely on it for quite a lot of things out there!!

Climate change, natural or man-made, will affect everybody whether you live 5 miles, or 500 miles from the sea in the instance of global warming. Rising sea levels and global temps will have have a direct effect on everything hydro-meteorological worldwide. The lack of, or excessive rain will reduce food yields. That effects us all right?

I know, I was just trying to break it gently without sounding like a doom merchant!!

Matt, you are a doom merchant and others on this forum will be after yer bum soon!!

Annyway, regardless of everything, as I've said all along, it would be nice just to have nice clean air in most places. Prevention is, after all, better than cure (i.e. relying on trees, etc).

I agree. Fewer chemicals and pollution can only help our planet.

I don't like to think myself as that.. I prefer to express my opinion while modestly respect others. I am an optimist, but it does kinda frustrate me when people (including MP's hehe) shoulder off the blame onto other nations or other politcal parties etc...

Anyway, yeah, people have been saying it for YEARS, even at the start of the industrial revolution, people were starting to wonder what all that smoke, chemicals, fumes and other crap was going to do (except give people horrific respiratory problems, etc etc I mean).

Well ..... give people JOBS and HOUSING and DRUGS and MEDICAL EQUIPMENT and instant, worldwide COMMUNICATION and fast, cheaper TRANSPORTATION (air, land and sea) and available, varied and inexpensive FOOD and TV and COMPUTERS and at least 35 more years of LIFE EXPECTANCY, etc, etc, I mean ........ Incidentally, the air in all major North American cities is CLEANER this year than last year ....... and the year before and the year before and WAY CLEANER then in the 60s, 70s or 80s. But you NEVER hear about any of that!

B.

It always make me smile when people make out that it was all just invented quite recently.
NOTE: I stuck some thoughts into the middle of the quote.^

Actually, the Global Warming Hoax WAS invented in the 80s (before that it was Global COOLING) to promote Socialism and destroy Captialism. (Did you ever wounder why EVERY Global Warming fix HURTS business?) With robust Capitalist Systems operating in the world, Socialism CAN NOT succeed! Our planet doesn't suffer from a lack of Wealth Distribution; it suffers from a lack of wide distribution of Free Capitalism! In fact: the MORE Capitalism ..... the CLEANER the water, the CLEANER the air, the CLEANER the streets etc ..........

So There!,

Re: Fossil Awards

Oceananic, to what you just responded to, I only wrote the first bit, and about what people thought in about 1750, not about what has happened since. I know everything was much dirtier up until a few years ago - the London Smog of 1957 is a great example.

As for that last bit about medical supplies, etc, where did that come from??

I'm not into the politics (although I don't doubt this is Obama's chance to make his mark ....along with the rest of it), etc, but if the earth is actually cooling then, erm, look out the window (well, ok, maybe not the moment with all this snow but you know what I mean!!) I can give examples from the world of nature, some of which I personally have experienced myself, which would suggest the complete opposite, and hey, animals and nature isn't informed about these things, are they??

Anyway, the 1980s?? you sure?? it's been going about longer than that.

They come from Industry through the Free Market System. NOT from Government restrictions and regulations.

B.

The simple fact is that REAL Science JUST DOES NOT SUPPORT the Global Warming claims! There has been a LOT of money thrown at JUNK Science to INVENT Global Warming data ...... but Cilmatologists all over the world (who aren't geting Global Warming grants) are speaking up about the lack of UNBIASED data to support this HOAX. The latest scams involving the e-mails (which wern't STOLEN; they were probably LEAKED by an inside wistleblower) and the Russian exposer of data from 2/3rds of their weather stations being DUMPED because it didn't support the HOAX, are just the two most recent examples.

B.

Anyway, the 1980s?? you sure?? it's been going about longer than that.
People have ALWAYS thought that the curent weather was UNUSUAL. You have to look at the Science ..... the collected Data over a LONG perion of time to see what's really happening.

Hope I've contributed more light than heat,
Brian

Re: Fossil Awards

I meant, where the writing came from, not where the medical supplies came from - was it a post that was then deleted before I saw it??

ANNYWAY.
No evidence for global warming?? I thought this discussion had moved on from whether it existed or not!

I've actually SEEN things in nature and wildlife with my own eyes, I have not listened to some scientist or politician, I've just seen things whilst out in the field.

Also, I happen to play a winter sport (something that isn't very common here in the UK if you are to see our Winter Olympic medal table), and it has become very difficult, if not nigh on impossible to be able to play it outside, whereas in the past, it was just taken for granted to happen every year and what's more, to actually last a reasonable amount of time (suitable ice will appear, only for it to melt again before anything can really be done about it).
I'm not saying it can't be done, but the chances certainly are much smaller than they used to be.

Re: Fossil Awards

Also, as for people moaning about the weather since the dawn of mankind?? yes, tell me about it, I live in the UK where it's practically a national obsession!!

I have been told things like

'It hasn't stopped raining or drizzling in 17 days!'

I mean, do people keep big charts recording every time it rains or something?? I really do have to wonder about some people. And then, the same people, who will moan incessantly about rain, saying they want sun, will, then moan incessantly when it's sunny because they burn too easily or it's too hot!! you just can't win!!

To me weather is weather (a contradiction considering the subject, I know, but I don't go about as if the world has ended just because it has started to rain - I live in a country with a fecking maritime climate, which is parallel with northern Canada and Russia, and is only 5 degrees below the Arctic circle (well, the Shetlands are anyway). What do you expect!!?? )
