Interesting Video about the Wallaby Route

This is an excellent video made by Qantas to mark 60 years of them flying to South Africa. Little did I know, it took more than 40 hours (80 on the return leg) and 3 stops (4 on the return leg) for a plane to cross an ocean those days!

After watching this, the least I can do is thank you Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft manufacturers for they're modern developments!

Re: Interesting Video about the Wallaby Route

Great find. Well for starters, the old route is some 1400 nm longer than the great-circle connection between the two cities. And you may want to thank De Havilland (Comet), Tupolev (Tu-104), and Sud-Aviation (Caravelle) for their pioneering work on commercial jets, and don't forget the engine manufacturers! The first jet airplane ever was of course the He 178 back in 1939.

Nice video but not much footage of any Lancastrians.
