Introducing User Reputation

We have started the user reputation system on Wings900.

This system is to help show how much the person is a valued member of the Wings900 community.

This allows you to give both positive and negative feedback on posts made by other users thus adding to their user reputation.

To leave positive or negative feedback, click on the Reputation icon under your user name.

The way the system works is simple, it creates a "reputation" based on how others like and dislike your posts. There are different levels:

needs to find another hobby
poor contributor
needs to improve
is a newbie
is getting started
is appreciated
is a good contributor
is an excellent contributor
is a diecast icon

EVERYBODY IS NOW A NEWBIE

Be warned, there is a limit to the number of reputation points you can give at any given time, so save them and use them only if you want to "reward" a great contribution or really show your disapproval of a member's post.

How much your opinion counts towards the reputation of another person is based on YOUR reputation.

You can use this to add trader feedback as well.

This is an experiment to help us deal with the issues we have had lately with poor posts and poor content. If this works (and it will as long as YOU leave positive as well as negative reputation points), we will look into using this system to "unlock" features for users who have a good reputation and restrict access to those whose reputation shows they are not a productive and respected member of Wings900.

What do you think?

Re: Introducing User Reputation

This is a great idea. But what happens if you improve a lot, can they change your feed back from bad to good? and 1 more question, Can you see who has left you feedback?
and for this bit...

Does that mean we will only have a few points to give out like 3 then thats it we have used them all?

Thanks for bringing new idea's.

We are looking into making certain new forums available to users with a certain reputation or higher.

You have 10 reputation "votes" per day, use them carefully. You must also spread them out (on other words, you can't vote for the same user more than twice a day) Remember, reputation "votes" are are not simply added to reach another level, they take into account your OWN reputation and the reputation of the person leaving the reputation comment. For example, 7 "newbies" saying they like a post and two "excellent contributors" saying they don't like it will have a negative result to one's reputation.

Remember, vote for posts you want to reward or punish, NOT the user

To get a good reputation, you have to contribute good stuff and people have to say they appreciate what you have contributed to the forum.

You can see the last 10 reputation ratings in your profile (go to your control box http://www.wings900.com/vb/usercp.php and look under the subscribe thread box) In a thread, if you click on the reputation in your own profile, you will see your rating so far for the post in question.

I am not an expert in the way this all works, but we are making an effort to help things moving forward and improving Wings900. We may remove this feature if it doesn't meet our expectations..... but I felt it is worth a shot.

Re: Introducing User Reputation

That's a pretty good idea. I mean, there was the report post button for reporting disgraceful posts, but this allows everyone to praise or show disappointment when a superb or awful posts has been made.

Re: Introducing User Reputation

You know... this really is good! Have the W900 board been confereing about what to do about the argueing recently??

I think that it is a great idea, but some people may abuse the system, and "covertly-instruct" (using un-regulated PM) everybody to give user: "WaterBottle" a bad reputation?

Will you check to see which circumstances a person is being given bad reputation?

Thanks for the improvements!

Regards

Matt

Re: Introducing User Reputation

Great idea. WE just have to hope that everyone uses in the manner it is supposed to be and not as a popularity contest.

Re: Introducing User Reputation

When one wants to see a certain member's reputation stats, where do I look for it ? I just posted a positive comment to a member, but I got lost tracking it. Thanks. Btw this is a nice idea !

Now.

There is a small rectangular icon which for newbie's is like a purple colour. To give some one a good or bad reputation you click on the icon with the tick and cross.

Re: Introducing User Reputation

I think this is an amazing idea, but Im a little concerned regarding people acting 'childish' or 'biased' and purposely leaving negative feedback.

Re: Introducing User Reputation

This is a great idea. I like that it involves user participation, whether positive or negative.

Re: Introducing User Reputation

Jim,

I think this is a great innovation. I will be interested to see how it goes. As you said, its success will depend on how the membership uses it. I have not heard of this type of system being used on forums elsewhere but it certainly has potential to make these forums very robust going into the future.

Well done!
