If the owners (whichever site it is) dont want, nothing will change...period.

Write to the owners, you can contact them via this section, I think it was vs-admin or something like this.

I for one dont care, I can live without the DB on this site. It would be of course nice to have it back, but why bother about things which wouldnt change anyway. Have enough other stuff to bother than this...it is a hobby for me, not a sense of life.

The site is out of date, try to check any site:
Italiavola
AeroportiLombardi
MD80
AirCargoItaly
Some of these are also with a forum inside and the graphics are different and much more userfriendly, some have integration with TapaTalk, which many users use (me in primis).

As a user you have contributed, and even in this moment you contribute to keep the site alive, wouldn't you like to know why the db doesn't work? and know if we can do something to make it operational as soon as possible?

This is a hobby, absolutely, we don't make a euro, but I personally like to know things, I don't like to leave things in the fog.

indeed @vs-admin @admin if you intervene and give us/me some explanation I would be grateful. Thank you.

Leave to you what you want to think, but you should stop overinterpreting things and especially in this respect stop blaming people to have a compliant or not interested attitude.
The answer is simple, same for DAC (I think the owners are the same) : I simply don't waste energy anymore on things which we will not be able to change.

Or do you think we have been sitting here idle for 4 years and just waited for you to appear and revive this topic ? If so, you are a bit naive, sorry.

Re: Database, where are you?

You see the help buttoon at the top of the site.
Go for it, write them, everything you mentioned here and get them to change it.
Dont write HERE, write to them in the contact section.

I think that if I don't like something, or I know it could be improved, I can do my part, don't you think?
I don't seem to have blamed anyone for this, but I just noticed a very compliant attitude.
(if you feel called into question, it means that in what I wrote, in something you have seen again, don't you believe? and I aroused emotions in you, and you interacted - and for this I thank you-).
I am not saying that you have been waiting for me for 4 years, but maybe someone to ask the problem. In 4 years, many things change, and this could be the last call before boarding. To renew things.
The world of the web runs fast and doesn't wait.

Thank you for the directions to contact the administrators, and I will, but even this is a serious lack, as it means that the owners themselves do not supervise the site. And it is left to users and moderators alone, who can only do part of the work.

Re: Database, where are you?

Keep calm friends, please.
It is important to listen at those members who know more about the hobby and the site, but it is important the same having fresh, new minds, even if a bit bursting.
I know the DB problem exists, even if we have forgotten it...

and to push the owners to make again the DB on?
Wings900 is NOT the first choice anymore. People have to get over that. It's been nearly 9 years since this site left the server of the original owners of Wings900 and DAC.

NOTHING has been done since then, and NOTHING will be done.

The owners don't care about the DB, they make money off of you and I coming here and reading things and clicking ads. Case closed. This is not a hobby forum, it is a business to make money.

Even IF the owners upgrade the forum software they would kill the database. Fixing the database means a monetary investment. What is in it for them to spend money to fix something, hire people, administration of users, etc...Nothing...zilch...zero...nada... They get all the income they wan tfrom from ads, skimlinks, ebay links etc.

(Also the current owners are not to blame for the downfall, it was 1-2 owners before them that really started to let this place fall apart...I know, because I was there..)

Re: Database, where are you?

I liked the last intervention, I found it charged, I must be honest!
They make money, really, but with the database they could make more, today advertising is everything, and they could put more banners!
Even if they put the DB for 5 euros a year for consultation, it could be done ... they are the cost of 5 coffees or the cost of a pack of cigarettes.
and they have the money to run, and we have the database! couldn't that be a solution?

Re: Database, where are you?

I tried accessing the database many times over the past year(s) but never been succeful. Those that had acces aren't online anymore, I simply cannot figure out how to access. It's not a lack of trying from users, but we can only do so much..

I think that the problems the access, because it's online, but it's not possible come inside. and upload the model.
It's the owner of the site that must give access

What's the problem? What can be done to get the database back up and running? in case you can export what it contains (if this database is now dead) and update the info on a new one? ... and then obviously update it. I think without a database this site is very neutered.

Some Wings900 history relating to the poor old database

early 2010 Wing900 owners sell their forum and database to Martingale Internet Technologies
08-10-2012 Martingale Internet Technologies rebrands as HobbyTalk
late 2012 HobbyTalk sells their forums and domain names (among others Wings900) to MAS Media but keep Wings900 database
01-25-2013 HobbyTalk announces that »forum specialist« MAS Media is »taking over« to »ensure« that all of their sites (SlotForum, PlanetDiecast, HobbyTalk & The Wings family) »continue to run« while the database system ownership remains unaffected as HobbyTalk plans »to make exciting new changes«.
01-25-2013 Faucett Peru resignes from working on the database and takes a »time-out« as a team member.
02-11-2013 HobbyTalk informes that server move has been completed and that he expects that updates can start beeing processed (through the volunteer work of mmu69 and make.me.laugh)
04-05-2013 HobbyTalk states that »a lot of the software the current Wings database is based on is very out of date (by several versions in some cases) and because it was not designed as a whole from the get-go, but rather developed over time with features being added«.
08-24-2013 make.me.laugh (looking after the database for all 1/400 and 1/200 models since 02/13) complaints about the technical age of Wings900 and points out that »the original program script was written last century« and that the current site »is so overburdened with layer upon layer of quick fixes to script over the past dozen years, that the whole site balances on brink of disaster.«
03-06-2015 make.me.laugh reveals that the database »froze« in October 2014, that since February 2015 he is »locked out of the database update page« and that »it seems everyday more disappears datawise from this site«.
03-09-2015 MAS Media Inc. communicates that they have transfered the operations and ownership of Wings900 to Verticalsope Inc.
03-10-2015 regarding the inability of updating the database vs-Admin (account that is shared by several people of the Verticalscope support team) admits that »there appears to be more than one part of it broken«
04-29-2015 vs-Admin states that their »techs and some individuals who are offering what they know about the database« »managed to clear out plus 10000 plus spam entries that were clogging up the queue on the DB« and that they were »still working on uncovering how it works«

As far as I was able to research there has not been any additional specific information about the state of the database since 04-29-2015.

Ivery interesting reflection, so the database had problems from well before! it would be even more interesting to know who is the owner of the domain you have projects, because I think these problems have increased in these 5 years, changing server hosting, exporting data, can you? and what about the forum (also now as old as the world) to move it towards a more current language? (these are my evaluations eh ... but sooner or later they will have to be made) I wrote to the owners, and if you do it too maybe things will change ... if there are many voices, asking for something, it is easier for it to happen change.

Tip of the iceberg... 2011-2013 the real damage was done.. the code here is still valid, the DB could be resurrected...

The leader of martingale -> Toycollector -> Hobbytalk -> Hobbysphere is still around and kicking.. a copy of the wings900 db was used to start HobbyDB.com.. which is run by the same person who ran those 4 sites into the ground after chasing investors for money. Prior to which that individual ran ClockWorx Ltd and Auctioning4u, which as you may have guessed, were also dissolved after funding ran out... surprise..

No blame on Mas Media; they had the wool pulled over their eyes. Vertical Scope was just a place to pick it up after MM was done with it... VS has no knowledge of the history, they were handed a broken system and I don't blame them if they dont want to put money into it.

So much more to the story that pre-dates Mas Media...

now if VS would allow the sites to be taken over and run by hobbyists again, that is what this site needs. This site is MINISCULE compared to the other sites they own, this generates revenue but pennies compared.. if they let it go back to a collectors hands, then maybe something could be done.. (well i know it CAN be done, there is only 1-2 people that know how to fix everything)

maybe we (users) can write to the owner, and they will listen us... or can give us answer about the future projects of this community.
