This forum used to be so much fun but the PC ruined it! Lol

The decline of Wings900 has been so sad to watch, other forums are thriving!

Re: This forum used to be so much fun but the PC ruined it! Lol

Times and things change permanently, that's life.
And yes, I agree: Years ago the contributions were more interesting to me. But still there are enough readable contributions... ;-)

Today nothing similar to what Wings900 was years ago.
A real Bible for each collector, a volcano of threads, posts, news, extremely interesting comments and contributions by great collectors, real Masters of 1:200, 1:400 and, especially, 1:500 scale.
Today Wings900 is a ghost of what it was , too many great members abandoned it without a replacement. There are great threads and posts and some are interesting so i don't understand the poor participation, even considering the fact that there aren't trolls.
It is incredible how Wings900 was alive and in good health with political debates and the strong trolls presence while now, with pure and only scale models debates, it is dying day after day.
And there aren't strong, active, important similar websites around! So maybe this is a general situation, the lack of people commenting and participating to scale models sites life.
The lack of a working and updated database has a great responsibility in the abandone of many important members but it isn't only this: people seem to be ready to comment only Herpa news threads, while all other forums are almost a desert. Spotting Forum, years ago something so beautiful to compete with Airliners.net or Jetphotos.com, is completely abandoned; Handmade Airports Forum is the (bad) copy of what it was when there were the beautiful competitions among airports builders; sometimes life exists in Civil Aviation Forum, with the various news; two or three members are regularly posting their fleets and collections in the 1:500 scale Forum, a very poor landscape in a scale (1:500) where should be at least 10 new threads a day, where people should be proud to post their fleets and collections and new models, where debates about moulds, liveries and airlines should be so many to not to have time to read them! While the 1:400 scale Forum is no more living (except for the beautiful mish-mash realizations).
Even threads about Models Reviews and similar debates are like "life on Mars"...non existent.
I don't think the missing database and the complete lack of Wings900 owners presence are the only reasons, there must be something deeper even because each time i join there are 2-3 active members and 150-200 visitors! The intetest is living, is strong, but then this interest doesn't transform in an active presence.
And other sites like D.A.C or DiMa are not better, a post each 2-3 months...
Only AviationDelightForum seems to have vitality with interesting debates.
Sad, really sad.

As this is obviously a troll, I purposely refrained from commenting. I hoped everyone would see that..

LAX Reincarnate is flying under the radar
Smile Re: This forum used to be so much fun but the PC ruined it! Lol

Wow , things have changed a lot.
I used to be LAX here on this forum some years ago - so many now intact that my login became defunct when i tried to login recently so i had to reinvent myself ... hence the Reincarnate in my new name
Anyways .. I came back primarily to log my collection for personal record but the database was a real shock and had little of what I have so i'm not sure whether to stick around again or not ?
I wonder if the decline is related to the new generation of kids growing up today (I am 52) who find their entertainment in other more electrical pursuits and not so much in the collecting of "things" like we used to.
There seems to be a real disconnect also in the eBay environment where sellers ask extraordinary prices for very general release models under the guise of overuse of the word "rare" when infact there is nothing at all rare about the model they are selling other that the overinflated rarified price that they are dreaming that they will achieve on it.
These models sit on eBay and need sell ... do the sellers not understand there is just not the market of dedicated buying collectors anymore ?
It's a decline you can see on many facets not just here.
I went away ... had my family .... now the kids are almost out of home I find my way back to doing here what I have always loved in a hobby.
For me it's like having to learn to walk again because this website sure has changed a lot.
At my age , I might need a cane to negotiate my way around

Lax

Apologize if i don't remember, which scale do/did you collect?
I agree with you; the inexplicable things are the too many "silent readers" respect the very few members participating (just now 5 members and 81 guests and this says all...) and the absolute carelessness of the owners about the database.
I think our friend uncle beat already said everything about Wings900.

At least 81 users found the title interesting enough to read. And two readers, who weren't paticipating for years got back active with post... That might be a first sign for more to come altogether?

I'm still looking forward to more participating, different opions and more discussions.

Re: This forum used to be so much fun but the PC ruined it! Lol

As we say "those who are absent are always wrong", the same for "those who don't participate, unavoidably loses rights".
Who am i saying? I am referring to Herpa decision not to share the usual ten Club model to vote by Herpa Wings Club members for low participation by the same members...
Very sad and the word "low" (low demand for models, low participation in voting Herpa Wings Club models, low participation in Wings900 activity...) is really frustrating and devastating.

Re: This forum used to be so much fun but the PC ruined it! Lol

I pop in from time to time. A few factors limit my participation compared with previous years, including my job until recently.

But the hobby has cooled considerably since the mid 2000s it feels like too, and it's not just this hobby too, it is others too! I think the most common complaint has been that of price points (though it feels like they've finally stabilized a little in the last few years after sharp increases. Of course, due to all the Tristars released, I had expanded my collection a little bit. Finally got me some stuff I've been wanting for some years.
