Database: time to restart it?

Ciao to all.
Wings900 database: too many years missing, no news, no infos, no something similar to a database at the horizon...
Wings900 is not the same without a good database, something at the same high level of the various forums. And too many good members abandoned Wings900 because of the missing database.

What can we do?
What want we do?
Your opinion please.

I continue to think Wings900 is the Bible of airplane models collectors, but without a working database it is a not complete website. Really shameful!
I am reflecting on the possibility to leave Wings900 like other members already did: i don't think this website can exist without a good database.
Your opinions are welcome, but i especially ask you what can we do to ask for a new, working database.

The problem with the Database is that absolutely no one knows how its accessed. I've tried various methods of getting in, even with help, all without success.

Now I've tried to get VS involved but sadly they seem to have dropped the matter too.

I think the owners should give something more to Wings900 = us all!
A new database, something easy to use.
Too many years passed without a working database and everything changes improving, only Wings900 is the same since many years and its "fortunes" exclusively depend on our participation.
I think now it is time to buy/create a new database.
If Elon Musk is able to send astronauts on the ISS i think Wings900 owners are able (should able) to give us a new, easy to use (even very, very simple and basic, not so expensive...) database!!!

Did you have access to the Database prior to it shutting down?

With DiMA database working fine, I think W900 database would be redundant by now. If someone could pick up W900 database where it was left, there would be tons of work to do. When was it last updated? 2012ish...???

So basically: if someone can get the W900 database running again, great news. But if it don't, I don't think we need it anymore since, like I said, DiMA database is a great replacement.

Agree 100%. While I agree it is a shame that the DB is broken, who should be doing all the work to get it updated since last time ? DIMA DB works, DAC and W900 are history.
But different from your poinion I differ between DB and Forum. There is still some Forum use on DAC and on W900, dependings on Topics. Lot of members are part of all 3 Websites.

I didn't Thom. I think it was a good database but trying to rework with it is like to maka an improved/updated B757, a B757neo. Unuseful, even if i would like it!
I imagine Wings900 is gaining good money with us, pics, sponsors, advertisements and new members, and the owners could/should spend something to update it and creating a new database. We don't need something useful for NASA: we need something useful for models collectors!
It is not possible all the great work of mmu69, Faucett Peru and the many other great members who worked in it (apologize, i don't remember all, especially those for 1:200 and 1:400 scale) has been lost.
For this reason i ask something easy to use and not expensive, something we and some volunteers could use to restart the database.

Why i should post pics and threads on Wings900 and have a database in another site? It is like having home here and the cellar 10 km far. A nonsense. A member must have the freedom to join Wings900 and having the database in other sites but, at the same time, the same freedom to join Wings900 having a good, easy to use database available.
A member who wants a databse for his/her collection should have the opportunity to make everything here. In fact i did not have my db in other sites.
I am just asking something easy to use and, being basic, not so expensive for the owners.
For me a website must be complete and Wings900 is not complete because there isn't the database.

of course a working database would be a welcome addition to this forum but what i've read, heard and seen about the database here I somehow doubt it would be savagable and therefor would have to be set up completely new..........but i'm just an it-noob, what do I know


On the other hand there is Dima. I also have an account with them and started to add my models there but ~2yrs ago i had some troubles with using dima (can't really remember what it was), so i stopped using it.
For now I just have my own little access-database to keep track of the models I already own.

Me too. I wanted a "paper database" with three large notebooks covering all my 1:400, 1:500 and 1:200 (military) models.

As far as I know, the only working database at present is the one created by Michael Waffle at DIMA.
If something happened to it or to him, we'd lose that resource so a second one would be a good thing as a backup.

I did not know DIMA database was created by Michael, great man and great collector.
Anyway i think Wings900 should have a good database, even a second choice for some of us, as you said.
There could be many opportunities for the owners like asking to someone able to make it...
The problem is always the same: when there is the will even the most difficult things are done, without the will nothing is possibile.

Reworking the collection page for users to display their models would be great, but overall the forum needs some reworking. Feels quite outdated compared many Avsim forums I visit. It could certainly help breathe new life into the whole community.
