Re: PT-TAA British Airways custom models

After two and half years, time to bring this thread back to life! To do that I just finished a batch of 6 new World tails. The first is a 747-400, reg. G-BNLC, 1997 colors, "Colum/Dove" tail, 1/500 scale. The real machine was delivered to BA in February 1989 and named "City of Cardiff", painted in "Colum" colors from 1999 to 2003, then to Union Flag current colors. She left the fleet in October 2008 and scrapped in Cardiff in November 2011, ironically in the place who gave its name.

The second is a 747-400, reg. G-BNLT, 1997 colors, "Koguty Lowickie" tail, 1/500 scale. The 1/1 scale plane was delivered to BA on 19/03/1991 and withdrawn on 01/04/2014, exactly 4 years ago!

The third is a 747-400, registered G-CIVC, 1997 colors, "Delftblue Daybreak" tail, 1/500 scale. She's still active in BA, flying since February 1994; wore "Delftblue Daybreak" colors from 1999 to 2003 and is flying in Oneworld colors since 2009.

The fourth is a 747-400 registered G-CIVN, 1997 colors, "Delftblue Daybreak" tail, 1/500 scale. The tail has the same name as of G-CIVC's, its design, however, is different. Delivered new on 29/09/1997, already in World tail colors, flew in that livery until May 2004. She is still active.

The fourth is 777-200ER, reg. G-VIIP, 1997 colors, "Colum - Dove" tail, 1/500 scale. Delivered new to BA in 1999, she wore "Colum" colors until mid 2004, she is still active.

The fifth and last for this batch is a 757-200, reg. G-BIKN, 1997 colors, "Rendezvous - pink" tail, 1/500 scale. One of the four different Rendezvous designs; of the others, one had grey background, one had yellow and the other none. Delivered new to BA in January 1985, named "Bodiam Castle", received the "Rendezvous" livery in 1999 and left BA fleet in November 2001. After freighter conversion she went to DHL Air in 2003 and flew there until retirement in 2015. Scrapped. One of the early 757s with RB.211-535C engines, notice the diferent naceles.

The tenth is a 747-400, reg. G-CIVO, World tail "Benyhone Tartan" colors, 1/500 scale.
Received by BA on December 1997, was repainted to "Union Flag" on May 2003. Active

And the eleventh and last for this batch is a BA Cityflyer Saab 2000, registered G-CDKA, 1997 (Union Flag) colors, 1/500 scale. The real propliner was the 6th Saab 2000, delivered new to Crossair on August 1994, as HB-IZC, transfered to Swiss on March 2002, returned to Saab (SE-006) on August 2003, to Soder Air as OH-SRC on December 2003, back to Saab again on May 2004, taken by Eastern Airways on March 2005, as G-CDKA, leased to BA Cityflyer on May 2015, returned to Eastern Airways on June 2018 and then stored at ORB on August 2018. My second 3D printed model after the first, unpleasant try, with an Air Baltic Bae 146-100 from many years ago. Now that the material has been improved the results are much better, the paint dries normally. Even with the improvements some of the flaws still remain, such as the quite rough surface (more intense on some models) and on few models there are some print defects which need to be corrected, which means extra work. Anyway the final results are much better and this turned out to be my top favourite of the batch.

Re: PT-TAA British Airways custom models

After 8 months, I'm finishing a big batch of World tails. Ten are already finished, so, here they are! The first is an A320-100, registered G-BUSD, 1997 - World tail "Union Flag" colors. Such an excellent batch of BA World Tails! I really liked the idea, too bad Mrs. Thatcher didn't

Sadly, the Jumbo BDXB is indeed in bad shape at Xiamen airport.

That's a lot of great customs there Sergio! The iconic World Tails by BA are absolutely well represented in this batch, not only including a lot of different tails but also a lot of different aircraft. I didn't even know BA used to have CFM56 powered A320s.. You learn something new every day!

Lookds bad indeed. If they dont have any use for it, I will see if I can free up some space here

Actually I own that very plane in 1:36, she used to be in the BA HQ before they phased her out. Very rare as Sergio said, only one in Union Flag.

Nice job Sergio, while Landor is unbeatable, these liveries are still proving to be popular or interesting 20 years later.

Great job on the customs. I love the Poppy livery, they often get overlooked by model manufacturers. I also like the Grand Union livery, especially as I live near the Grand Union Canal which is what the design is based on.

Yep, only them, IIRC they were six. Interestingly, there are small windowline differences, on left side, between them. Also, on ZS-NOU "Blomsterang" (Herpa - used it as donor) and on ZS-NOV "Delftblue Daybreak" the British Airways titles are placed slightly to the rear, if compared to the other four. In the short time they flew for Comair, at least one or two had the original Comair livery, at least one got the "Landor" colors and perhaps one or two later received the standard "Union Flag" (other than the already painted ZS-OBM). Not so much photos or data available...

Here's a family picture, minus the Herpa donor.

And now the last four of the batch, all twin engined widebodies. The first is a 767-300ER with registration G-BNWJ, 1997 - World tail "Golden Khokhloma" colors. This one was delivered new to British Airways on April 1991, in "Landor" livery, was painted in World tail colors on January 1999, left BA fleet on April 2000. She was taken by Qantas on July 2000, as VH-ZXD, and stayed there until July 2013, was stored at PVG from July 2013 and April 2017. Then ferried to MCI and stored between April and July 2017. Flew with Dynamic Airways from July 2017 to March 2018, registered N793JM. Since April 2018 she is flying for Eastern Airlines, she got a new reg (N705KW) on June 2018.

The second is a 777-200, registered G-ZZZC, 1997 - World tail "Rendezvous" colors. The real machine is a non ER Triple Seven, the 15th built, and has the distinction of being the first 777 ever delivered to British Airways, on November 1995 (G-ZZZA and -ZZZB, altough earlier production machines, 6th and 10th respectively, were delivered in 1996 and 1997). She flew in "Landor" colors, then received the "Rendezvous" colors, on November 1997. Got the final (and standard) "Union Flag" livery on December 2001. She is still active and probably will be withdrawn from use by 2022/2023.

The fourth and last is a 777-200ER, registered G-VIIN, 1997 - World tail "Whale Rider" colors. The real machine arrived at BA on August 1998, already in "Whale Rider" colors, got the "Union Flag" livery on January 2004 and still flies for British Airways.

WOW Sergio, good to see the BA B767 in the Russia World Tail...sad to see her leave the fleet! G-ZZZC is a rare bird as it is still one of the earlier B777 (non-ER ones) in the BA fleet which won't be with BA for long...G-VIIM and G-VIIN are fabulous as well, the collector who has ordered them has great taste!!! The last pic reminds me of London Heathrow from the late 1990s with so many colourful World Tails, too bad someone didn't like them!!!

A couple more, both 737s. The first is a 737-200Adv, reg. G-BKYB, 1997 - World tail "Blue Poole" colors. She was delivered to British Airways on September 1984, wore Negus, then Landor colors, named "River Stour", before being painted in World tail colors on October 1997. She left BA on May 2000 and went to Aerolineas Argentinas on December same year. She flew for Aerolineas, as LV-ZXC, until November 2009, then, after a long storage, she went to Lineas Aereas del Sur, on January 2011, where she flew until retirement; she was stored at OPF on January 2014 and scrapped there.

Great Releases again, Sergio.

G-BUSB was "Isle of Jersey".

The little "Bastards" are really nice made. These little shoe boxes might surely not win a beauty contest as such, but I really like them. Way too few in 1:500, especially if you consider what flew in the UK & IRL.

Coinciding with the 747 retirement at British Airways this one is my last World Tail 747 in 1/500 (there are three in 1/400 still to be made later, but they were already made in 1/500 I think).
