Re: Herpa Wings News 09/10: Predictions and Why

Herpa has redone a few OG versions for their 25th aniversary, however those three I've found are quite mainstream: Swissair DC-10 (may be the first ever, as "500006"), Pan Am A310 and Qantas 747-400. Not to mention OG on wide-bodies is "not nice", but on narrow body it hurts in the eye…

Herpas releases concentrate a lot on a few major airlines, which in either current regular or special colors make about half the annoucements – there are barely ever news without some fresh Lufthansa, Delta or Emirates (thie last on only two molds…). And once Lufthansa will be done recoloring everything, we'll probably see a floot from United.

The other half of the announcements are for "everything else": Airlines, where Herpa only does cherry picking (with retros having the best chance as recently seen for El-Al and Garuda), military (which is either grey, grey or grey) and yes at the end also a few historic colors or molds.

For *my* taste, Herpa could reduce the special colors heavily to only retros and a few full-colors (like Icelandair Aurora or AirBaltic Latvia 100) and instead bring much more historics.

However, things have probably gotten better over the time: Searching for old PDFs I've stubled over 11/12 2012: Mainstream airlines with 2 releases and up to 10-12 (Aeroflot, Lufthansa, Air France) in the "collection".

Re: Herpa Wings News 09/10: Predictions and Why

Herpa should re-release these OG birds much more. OG releases barely count, since they are very poor models, which few people are really interested now.

I also agree that Herpa should release many more A300. Great classic bird. Lovely choices, "The__K"!

Re: Herpa Wings News 09/10: Predictions and Why

That's not a choise, but close to a complete list – at least as far as there are pictures on planespotters.net dating "pre-Herpa" (1992). This explains the focus on Europe/North Africa, where the early Air France was the only NG. You miss the North Americans? Because they all (!) were done in NG: Eastern, Continental, American. Singapore Airlines is the fifth classic NG A300.

Other OG (in release order): Emirates, Lufthansa white*, Malaysia, Saudia, JAS*, Apollo, CityBird, Iran Air, Sauth African, Air Niugini, Pan Am*, Bavaria Germanair*, Garuda. Those with * got an NG re-release, often as Wings Club. So it quickly went into exotics only and in fact there were also not many common newer NGs (mostly because mainstream airlines were already phasing out the A300 then).

Just to name 5:
https://www.planespotters.net/photo/...rbus-a300b2-1c
Air France, only in some very early colors.

https://www.planespotters.net/photo/...rbus-a300b4-2c
The last missing Lufthansa, while they even did short lived rented DC-8 or white 727.

https://www.planespotters.net/photo/...bus-a300b4-203
My Hapag collection waiting for the last one missing.

https://www.planespotters.net/photo/...bus-a300b4-203
Alitalia!

https://www.planespotters.net/photo/...rbus-a300b4-2c
Condor

https://www.planespotters.net/photo/...bus-a300b4-203
Olympic, only made in OG

Air Afrique, Tunisair, Air Algerie, Air Inter, PIA, Malaysia (OG only), EgyptAir, Varig, Thai in original color, Korean (OG only), China Airlines… And that's only from 1980s pictures.

Agree on that....A300 and A310 very under represented, even for the german airlines, which are usually the backbone for Herpa. There is no real o/c A300 LH, none for Condor, neither old or newer colours. Same goes for A310....nothing from LH, Condor or Hapag (not talking OG). And this affects also major european airlines, while back in 80ies almost everyone of the european majors flew at least one of the examples, bei it KL, SN, AF, IB, OA, AZ, TP, CY, SR, OS, SK, AY, LG, TK, IT, DA....not even talking about the more exotic european birds.

Too bad NG came to late and I dont see many of them will be produced in future, as only minor interest by airlines and/or collectors

For A310, if I haven't missed some:
Lufthansa: old in NG ("Lüneburg"), new in OG
Hapag: orange OG without reg (have it here), blue may be NG
Condor: Nothing at all
Interflug: OG only

not German, but a major user: Turkish Airlines. Old missing, new a (quite good looking) OG.

Re: Herpa Wings News 09/10: Predictions and Why

Some other very likely expectation: Lauda Air 767-300. While the 777-200 was also OG, that model is still *far* better.

Concerning to the thread title I don't see that as an expectation, because Austrian canceled the release of the Lauda Air B738.

I've thought of a special release honoring Niki Lauda.

I dont see Herpa releasing any Lauda model, not even with his death now....some airlines are dead for ever.

Count Lauda in, but in UK also dont expect to see anything from BCAL, Dan Air or British Midland. Taken over airlines are (usually) nothing, which you would do advertising today as the remaining airline (unless exceptions maybe like too important to ignore brands like Pan Am for example).
