Prices rising?

Have to poll some of my fellow collectors out there. Have you noticed a fairly recent increase in the asking price of many 1:400 models? Since Covid, I have had more time to troll Ebay looking for some of my "wish list" models and have added a few. But lately at least some of the prices have literally gone through the roof (especially those coming out of China). Some of the 1:400 prices I'm seeing are closing in on what one would expect to pay for 1:200 models. Just wondering what might be the cause? Are factories in shut-down creating a shortage??

There is a percentage of sellers from there that I am almost certain are hoarding a significant percentage of production of popular models to sell at highly inflated prices (and I mean like for 100 USD+.) *Those guys* have been around for years.

I've noticed some prices remain decent, but things are getting expensive. I sort have been complaining about the prices going up pretty sharply for newer releases since 2008 when 737s and A320s from brandslike Gemini started to go up from the lower 20s well into the low 30s. Now these releaes are almost 40 new!

I guess this is somewhat expected with more loose bells and whitsles to add (antennas, rolling gears (why?)). Contrary to popular thought, very little of our models go through a machine and are put togeather by hand when they are being finished up.

Hey, model plane manufactures, how about some Braniff PZL 230Fs.

Re: Prices rising?

I started collecting around 1997 and since then the prices have skyrocketed - even for original issues. E.g. What Herpa sold for 22 EUR is now over 34 EUR i.e. 55% increase in 23 years. Wish my salary had gone up the same way. The hobby has hence lost its charm for me. And these are the cheaper ones. NG/Panda are amazing quality but super exhorbitant prices.

Re: Prices rising?

I became aware of the price difference quite recently as I was looking at a German aviation model website. E.g The PandaModel P-8A is charged for 40 euro, however here in China it'd cost you 220 RMB, which is somewhere like 28 euro. I assume it's the tax, the profit, the labor cost, and the transportation that contribute to the price difference?

Re: Prices rising?

among the 3 most desired scales 1:200, 1:400 & 1:500.... 1:400 scale models are becoming crazy expensive .some are over 100 USD.. not to add the shipping which also increased

dont see the logic when a seller buys a model for 30-40 USD and then list it for 70-100 USD

example german post was the cheapest to the middle east..now for a single model, the least price is 20 euros with DHL from USA 24.50 USD

too much
