The first time I saw a Bouraq 'plane was in Los Angeles in 1978 or 79. I had arrived on a charter flight at the old Imperial Terminal on the south side of LAX. It is now the Flight Path Museum. As we parked in our British Airtours B707 there was a Bouraq B707 parked beside us.
When I first visited Jakarta in 1980, I flew into Halim airport but Kemoyaran airport was still open. Aeroplanes landing there often flew over the hotel I was staying in so I had to go to take a look. There were lots of wonderful old airliners including Bouraq Viscounts and HS748s. I remember at least one DC-3 in Bouraq livery also though it may not have been in service.
When Soekarno-Hatta opened Boraq moved there because Kemoyaran closed to operations. During my occasional visits to CGK in the 1990s I remember seeing Bouraq 737s and 748s. It was more difficult there because of the size of the airport and because domestic flight terminals were on one side of the airport and international terminals on the other. I don't remember ever seeing a Bouraq MD-82.
Bouraq only operated the MD82s in short period ( from 2003 to 2005 ). There were only 3 MD82s operated by BO together with the existing B737-200s. In that period, the HS748s had been retired.
Sadly, PK-IHE had crashed in 1993 at Surabaya's Juanda International Airport ( only 11 seconds after airborne, the right engine was out of order and the aircraft was stalled ).
Eleven passengers and 4 out of 5 crews on board were perished.
A piece of an article below ( but in Indonesian ) is the story told by the purser who survived the crash to Angkasa Magazine :
