Re: N3424V Collection Additions

As always, again thanks guys for your comments.

Thought I'd go with a contemporary Delta bird this time in a somewhat simple 'mash.

Thanks for all the glances and glimpses of the work.

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Very nice work indeed Mike, it's great to see the B757's continuing to work hard for Delta. The B757-200/WL frame combined with the sharp Delta livery makes this look like a very modern aircraft, even considering the fact that it is now fast becoming an 'old' type.

Thank-you Cal, as always.

Here's a Lufthansa bird 'mash that's not at a gate or on the ramp - A321 NEO.

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Nice sunlight on your Lufthansa 'NEO' Mike, the A321NEO is definitely a good looking narrowbody. On the subject of Lufthansa, my very delayed B747-8 in the new livery finally arrived this week - what a stunning model! It would be great to see this one in another 'mash soon!

Just in before the dark clouds roll over! Nice angle Mike, the landing lights are nice attention to detail and the reflection of the sun on the A321neos nose makes for a life-like shot.

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Thanks everyone.

This 'mash with the ANZ black B777 took some time to try and get the misty look over the dark fuselage.

It is easier with a white bird for sure and I'm not real satisfied that this 'mash really makes it.

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Your latest 'mash with the 'All Black' Air New Zealand B777 looks really good to me Mike! Considering the challenges presented by the black fuselage, I think you can be pleased with these results. The faint rainbow in the background makes for a really nice affect that completes the overall image.

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Nice to see you Vince, thanks. And Cal, thanks again.

New model (to me) after listing it on DIMA.

I've mentioned before that Piedmont Airlines was the regional airline at the airport where I grew up. Once I began my photo career, don't ask how long ago it was, but this will be a hint, I did several flights tn assignments on PiedmontmYS-11s . So I wanted this one in the collection.

This is Gemini's N259P from 2005.

Keep up the glansin' and the glimpsin'. It is 'preciated.

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Here's one more 'mash of the Piedmont YS-11.

Background images are hard to find for the aircraft so few 'mashes are possible. Just accept a "Murican's indulgence in his own past.

Thanks for glancing and glimpsing.

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Nice work on these ‘mashes Mike, both are nicely done. I must admit that I’m not familiar with the YS-11 type, but after some quick research it seems to be of Japanese heritage. This is a really interesting model, so thanks for sharing!

Re: N3424V Collection Additions

Thanks Cal.

Piedmont Airlines, a regional airline in the US Mid South and the Japanese YS-11 is an interesting bit of a story.

Piedmont flew many short and intermediate routes through the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. Before the Boeing 727s and particularly the 737-200s, there were not any small capacity, short route jet designs that suited Piedmont's needs. The YS-11 was the right sized turbo prop aircraft that carried the correct number of passengers and also had the power to take off from some of the mountain airports on hot, humid US Southern days. It worked. As mentioned, Piedmont replaced them with B737-200s.

Piedmont was an excellent airline, well known for its customer service, that grew from a few DC-3s flying in Virginia and the Carolinas, to a big mover throughout the east and south of the US. I mentioned with my recent 'mash of the Piedmont B767 that they expanded service to include London Gatwick before being taken over by US Air.

As I was growing up and then started working, if you flew around where I lived, you took Piedmont. That's why there are the four Piedmont birds in my fleet.

Thanks for sharing this bit of history Mike, it's really interesting to hear the story behind how the YS-11 came to end up with Piedmont. It seems as though the Piedmont name still flies in some fashion under the American Eagle brand with a fleet of E-145's? Having said that, I'm sure it's nothing like the Piedmont of old that you seem to have fond memories of!

Cal, There's a short bit of additional history. If I'm not mistaken, the current Piedmont Airlines, based in Maryland, grew from Henson Airlines. Henson flew as a Piedmont subsidiary in Dash 100s carrying a mix of both Piedmont and their own livery. (I have a Dash-100 model so marked. Last mish-mashed in January 2018.) When US Air(ways) gobbled up Piedmont, Henson took the Piedmont name and holds it today. So again, if not mistaken, there is that link.

Anyway, this is the last Piedmont 'mash in this string. Here's a B737-200 form the early 80s.

Piedmont B737-200 taxi combo by Mike Dillard, on Flickr

Thanks for glimpsin' and glancin'.
