BOAC Comet 4

For ages I been campaigning for a mainstreem manufacturer to produce a BOAC Comet 4 in 1/200 scale but so far it appears my requests have fallen on deaf ears.
Then by chance I stumbled upon a English made Skyline version on e-bay. Guess who won???????????? Yippeeeee. Paid mega bucks for it and no doubt the purists will find a string of faults with it and tell me I've wasted my money, BUT I DON'T CARE. At last my holy grail has been gained.

Re: BOAC Comet 4

Just received an original Mk 1 Skyline version of the BOAC Comet 4 and was pleasantly surprised at the finished product. Not up to current GJs or Inflight standards but very acceptable none the less. Finish is very similar to that of the original Western models which is OK by me.
Perhaps the re-brand to Sky Classics has been detremental with some corners being cut.
Overall I'm pleased with what I received. Should a mainstream manufacturer ever produce this it would have to be very very much better to entice me to buy one.

Re: BOAC Comet 4

A Taill of 2 Comets
Skyline models were originally marketed via CAM Uk which is no more. Sky Classics has emerged as a re-brand, marketed by ARD, and they are taking a lot of flack atm about their quality and finsh.
Just to add a profile comparison. Tail end of the Skyline looks reasonably OK; the Sky Classics tail dosn't look so good in my opinion.
So if you have the urge to get one (circa £130) try and get hold of the Skyline version.

Re: BOAC Comet 4

They're not great quality MYT (ie attention to detail).... I've got a couple of MAM VC-10's which were taken over by Skyline (Thanks robertjohn for the info) but the thing i love about them is they're made the old fashioned way,i can't afford those sort of prices (even Corgi's are going that way) but you can hope....

Re: BOAC Comet 4

As I have said before the quality is similar to the early Wetern models, so you get a classic vintage model made in the classic vintage way. As a result it has character rather than clinical excellence. This was the 1st jet airliner to enter service and it did not have all the bells and whistles on it like todays modern stuff. It was of a plane of simple construction compared to current manufacture and the model recreates that. Having seen them and flown in them helps form your opinions. Agreed it has a few minor issues like some others but I'm not a nit picker.
A big plus for this model it weighs a tonne so makes a good paper weight and can easily be cleaned as there are no aerials or delicate under carriage to knock off.

Re: BOAC Comet 4

Someting else I forgot to mention.
If you want/need/desire a 1/200 scale BOAC Coment 4 to complete your collection this is your only choice. You could be waiting a very, very, very, long time before anybody else makes one.
Now prove me wrong InFlight OR GJs OR AV200. You should have made one years ago.
