Did you know ???

Well, this is not supposed to be a thread about a fairy tale like "once upon a time", but...I thought it could be interesting for many of us, especially the younger ones.

When having written or talked about airline fleets, most of us know what airline flew which planes usually. But Hey, every Airline had it's odd one out (or even more)....and those I find particularly interesting.

Maybe one or the other has interest to fill this thread as well with life and post some pics. Dont have to be your own (but would of course be welcome), but should be an "uncommon" one.

Not a Picture of an aircraft that is normally part of that Airlines fleet....

There are so many examples, like attached, sure you will understand what I mean.

Let's go, bring some colour to this thread So it can be called : "Did you know .....this Airline flew this plane ?"

Re: Did you know ???

In 2013 Jet2 Leased an A320 from Titan for the summer and unlike the following years it was painted in its own interim livery as opposed to the normal titan livery with the Jet2 titles begind the first door. The aircraft, reg G-POWI was based at Newcastle only and was used soley on Spanish flights.

Here is my own pic from May 2013 during its first week of service.

Re: Did you know ???

Or how about the fact that Southwest use to fly these, and not just 737's?

Boeing added 4 feet to the length of ANA's 777-200s after a request for a slightly longer fuselage.

Re: Did you know ???

Nice idea!

In the sixties and early seventies, Lufthansa was known as a close Boeing partner. They operated the 707-400, 707-300, 720, 727-100, 727-200, 737-100, 737-200, 747-100 and 747-200.

But from May 11, 1965 to Dec 1965. they leased from Trans International the DC-8 prototype MSN 45252/LN1 N8008D and used it on the North Atlantic route in full Lufthansa livery DC-8.

In 1998 Airtours leased a 747-200 from Air New Zealand for the summer season and it was a regular at Manchester and Gatwick (credit to Prince Aviation Images).

Would that not require a different type rating?

Re: Did you know ???

KLM is the only civil airline to have operated the DC-5, only 5 were made. 1 was a private plane for William E. Boeing, while KLM took the remaining 4.

While occupied by Nazi-Germany, KLM sent the DC-5's to the Dutch East Indies (Now Indonesia).

A picture:

Therefore, KLM operated all Douglas aircraft.

Re: Did you know ???

Probably the most well-known interloper in the UK of the late 90's/early 00's was Monarch's DC-10-30 G-DMCA. It was the odd one out in a fleet dominated by A300's, B757's and A320's. Again, credit to Prince Aviation Images.

That's true (if we leave the DC-1 aside, which was only a one man Show) and pretty unique for an Airline fleet. Will not happen anymore these days...

Re: Did you know ???

In the early 2000s Monarch operated an MD-11 to support the DC-10 during the busy summer season whilst waiting for the A330-200s to be delivered, It flew in this interim livery, It was leased from World Airways.

was asked to remove pic for some reason and cant be bothered to upload again
