Queen's Goodbye (B747-400).

Hi.
The Queen deserves a special thread. Unfortunately Covid-19 forced the few airlines still flying the B747-400 to ground her.

Re: Queen's Goodbye (B747-400).

According to the BA source if the frame would've been phased out it'd have visited one of BA's maintenance facilities prior to being relocated. BOH is also not a scrapyard, so there remains some hope.

I wouldn't be surprised if their British counterpart Virgin Atlantic would dispose of their remaining 747-400s though.

Very sad to see this beautiful bird go. It has certainly grown on my for the last few years. I am happy I got to fly on a blue one 1 month ago.

these quantities are not right... Rossiya, British, Thai and Lufthansa have more than that. Not sure about the others, though. Maybe this is counting only the active frames? Since the rest was probably parked due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Re: Queen's Goodbye (B747-400).

So the news are from yesterday that Lufthansa bows out with 5x744 and BA is planning to Forward the 744 retirement. Bloody shame...most likely it will also hit one, if not all, of the Retro BA 744's.
Too bad I missed the Landor 744 last year, only caught BOAC and Negus in LHR.

Yes Leo, only active airplanes. Source Planespotters.

Landor was stored at Bournemouth, but it doesn't seem to be a permanent storage. I still believe she will be brought back in service. I'm not sure about Negus and BOAC, but I deduce they're still active.

about LH retiring 5 744, sad indeed. But I must say I thought it would be way worse. They opted to retire 6 A380, 1 more than the 747-400!
