 Description
Etihad was founded in Abu Dhabi and is barely three years old, however they have already ordered four A380s. From 2008 on, the world’s largest passenger airplanes are scheduled to be delivered to the airline in the United Arab Emirates. Since the delivery of the originals is still far in the future, the model will be released without registration.

Model Review
Mould and Assembly: The A380-800 mould definately represents the actual aircraft in terms of size. There has been one major modification to the mould since its interception and that is the slight shortening of the nose gear which previously made the model sit too tall, has been corrected and now sits at the correct height. The fuselage itself is similar to the A310 in that it is completely seamless and Herpa has the wings join directly into the side of th fuselage which is done snugly and gives the model a clean apperance.

Livery: I've always been against models that have yet to fly to actually be released for non-corporate purposes. If you want to send it out to all you clients to promote a new product great, but fantasy models without registrations on an aircraft that is three years from delivery just doesn't cut it. Anyways, now that the rant is out of the way the color choice for the fuselage is very well done. It seems to be a finer grade of color then what was used on the A330-200 model in 1:400 scale because as you can tell there is very little glitter effect in the color on the fuselage. The Etihad titles are printed in the correct font and have a brown background which I believe could be slightly improved in terms of color but this is very minor. The titles are outlined in black which have no influence over the color of the title and if anything sharpen them against the lightery brown background.

Details: This model carries some additional details that were missing on some of the previous review models. The most noticeable detail is the detailing aroudn the horizontal stabalizer and now that this can be seen it shows how much of a major detail that this is on a model aircraft. The other details include additional fuselage markings which can be seen in the various photos and the APU exhaust is clearly printed on the rear of the model. The cockpit windows are very well done and are placed in the correct position.

I'm still not a big fan on these "fantasy" models. Alot can change between now and 2009 however Herpa has executed this model well based on the aircraft that are currently test flying for Airbus. The cockpit windows are corectly printed and the model does have quite a bit of detail. Hopefully the livery does not change like Qatar and this will become reality in another three years.
While it is a fantasy model, Herpa has done a good job on the execution of the model. The model has plenty of additional details that are lacking on some models but seem to be standard on some others. The shortened nose gear fixes the only serious flaw on the model and if you're an Etihad or an A380 fan then this model is for you.
