After many mergers with and acquisitions of other airlines, including Star Air Service, it became known as Alaska Airlines in 1944. It has expanded greatly since its founding and now has service not only within the state of Alaska but also throughout the Continental United States, Canada, Mexico and four Hawaiian Islands. It also operates a secondary hub and Mexican gateway at Los Angeles International Airport. Alaska Airlines' sister carrier, Horizon Air, is closely integrated into Alaska's operations, with Alaska and Horizon sharing many routes. Both airlines are owned by the same parent company, Alaska Air Group. In 2011, J. D. Power and Associates recognized Alaska Airlines as the top "Traditional Carrier" in customer satisfaction for the fourth year in a row. The airline's frequent flyer program is called Mileage Plan, and their lounge is called Board Room. Alaska Airlines is not part of any of the three major airline alliances, but has codeshare agreements with airlines that are prominent members of Oneworld, such as American Airlines, as well as prominent SkyTeam members like Delta Air Lines. On December 2, 2011 Alaska Airlines parent company, Alaska Air Group, replaced AMR Corporation in the Dow Jones Transportation Average. //Wikipedia

image Swissair AG (Schweizerische Luftverkehr) was the former national airline of Switzerland. It was formed from a merger between Balair and Ad Astra Aero (To the Stars), in 1931. For most of its 71 years, Swissair was one of the major international airlines and known as the "Flying Bank" due to the financial stability of the airline, causing it to be regarded as a Swiss national symbol and icon. It was headquartered at Zurich Airport and in Kloten. In 1997 the Swissair Group was renamed SAirGroup, with four subdivisions: SAirlines (to which Swissair and Crossair belonged), SAirServices, SAirLogistics and SAirRelations. After the expansive "Hunter strategy" in the late 1990s and after the economic turndown following the September 11 attacks, Swissair's assets dramatically lost value, grounding the already-troubled airline in October 2001. The airline was kept alive until 31 March 2002 by the Swiss Federal government. On 1 April 2002 the successor airline Swiss International Air Lines was founded on the base of former Crossair, taking over most of the routes, planes and staff of former Swissair. Today, The SAirGroup company still exists and is in the process of being liquidated. Swiss International Air Lines was taken over by the German airline Lufthansa in 2005. //Wikipedia
