The making of: Wings900 Spotter/Collector meeting (Europe)

Hello Everybody.

This is a planning thread. As we all know, Wings900 have users from all over the world.

The reason behind this thread is that it would be awesome to see the faces behind their colelctor Wings900 user names.. to see how many are interested to meet up with fellow model collectors.

As the threadtitle suggest, this thread is to be held in Europe. (If others want a different continent, please create a seperate meet-up thread)
I'm thinking that we could perhaps gather our fellow members and timed it with the Dusseldorf Wings Borse due to happen in October 16th.

It could well as be on other Aviation Fairs or some airshow due to be held this year.

Any suggestions are welcomed. If we all remember to plan well in advance, I'm sure some of us can spare a budget ticket and hang out with the bunch.

Take note that wherever we would locate this, I'm sure we could include aviation museum tour in the meet up, along with a couple of hours of spotting at the local airport. We just have to know when, where to held this and how many we can gather.

What do you guys say ?

London is always a good place. You get cheap flights and its always interesting for spotting. But I recommend a sommer month for a meeting and not october. Is there an aviation fair in London?

Nothing wrong with DUS. OK no museum, but it does have the show AND a spotter-friendly airport.
Don't reinvent the wheel :-)

The name of Farnborough may come to mind. It will be held July, 19th to 25th, probably too close for many to start planning.

But why not announce a date to get together for those who are there anyways (which, unfortunately, does not include me)?

guys i'd genuinely love to attend this event. And depending where/when it is i'll try my best. The only thing i can say is i can't take any leave to go and funds are tight due to an impending holiday/wedding (not mine!)

The "show" could be a little bit more spectacular

What's the King David Lounge Jon??

Farnborough is a possibility. You can get cheap tickets from the continent with FR and U2 to Gatwick, Stansted and get the train straight to Farnborough. The day before the first announced day is a trade day, and all visitors must be over 16. I will be going there anyway with my Squadron, and looking into careers etc. Just an idea

Now, what about Paris Air Show?

Re: The making of: Wings900 Spotter/Collector meeting (Europe)

Well Farnborough is every other year, if you where to go there you'd need to arrange somewhere else the next Plus, it isn't really a model fair.

Maybe MAK's? I wish. Although its pretty much the same as Farnborough.

You would need something more annual. Like N1786B said, DUS would be the best option. Model Fair + Airport to spot at.

King David Lounge? It's EL-AL's Business Class Lounge at Heathrow. I t can be used for formal events as well as flights.

Does EVERYTHING have to be ELAL with you?

To be quite honest, it's getting tedious that 95% of your posts are ELAL based!

Thank you for the suggestions.

London, UK and Düsseldorf, GE had been noted.

MYT and STN216, please no clutter on this thread. Take it on PM/elsewhere.

Re: The making of: Wings900 Spotter/Collector meeting (Europe)

About the spotting point of view i suggest DUS (for the fair and for the viewing terrace) and AMS (for the viewing terrace); London is a marvellous city but, also if i have seen it is possible to take some good photos, Heathrow has no more a terrace. Another good place is Corfù (inside the hotel overlooking the airport runway), or Funchal.
P.S. DUS is the more realistic place, it is not expensive, easy to reach from all over Europe, it has a great models fair and a marvellous terrace for the photos. But...stop Air Berlin for some time, i got sick of this airline (too many models in very few time in my 1:500 collection) and the most air traffic at DUS is based on Air Berlin! Let's take a break, change airport!
P.P.S. At the end any airport is good, even in Alaska, because if we will meet it means that i am alive and i won my personal war!
