Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
All,
We are currently working on some bug fixes and some other minor changes to the database and My Collection. We'd like to ask you the users what you would like to see in our next software release? Please use this thread to give us ideas. Thanks! -FD |

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
If there is any chance for faster page load times this would be highly appreciated. My collection is at about 700 models and it takes some time to reload...

Working on that, IE tends to be slower due to how it renders tables. Can you try it now, I made a slight change to the command that sends data to the browser.

Hm, I didn't measure the time before. Could be slightly faster now but I can't be sure.

No appreciable change for me (I have 1,500 models). Is there anything we can do on our PCs hardware-wise to speed up the loading process?

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
My wish would be an clean sortation by within the criteria.
Let me explain: If I sort my collection by type and airline, there is often the phenomena, that my 12 Lufthansa A321 aren't listed among each other. They are displayed with gaps which are filled by other airlines. Further more it would by nice, if you wouldn't make a determination between A321-100 and A321-200 / B747-100 and B747-200 Relating to the mould there are no differences, when we look at these models.

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
For your first question just change your sort order. Airline and then Aircraft Type. That should solve your issue.

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
Don't know how difficult this would be, but the ability to filter on scales would be nice. Or, to filter in general, for any of the column header categories. Also, adding 'alt_text' variations to the airline logo images would also be a nice.
Thanks for allowing us to provide input! |

Mark,
So you would like a feature to in essence turn off the logos? P.S. Got your Air NZ email everything is stuck in delays as the old database gets prepared for the new one. |

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
Hardware-wise, not really; Databases are considered software, so the only noticeable differences are going to be from recoding them. Every time you add something to it, the file size increases, thus increasing the time required to process it. A faster processor or internet connection might provide a slightly better response time, but notice the key words might and slightly. Everything is processed on the server side, meaning the W900 website - that means, basically, that the response times are only as good as the website allows for. Again, adding more info to the database increases the amount of time necessary to read that, so it will take a lot longer to read your 1500 models than it will to read a few dozen.

Thanks for clearing that up. This is wishful thinking, but maybe there could be a feature were we could "streamline" our collection database so that only absolutely essntial information appeared on the screen, such as id #, aircraft and airline. This way, when we are adding new models or simply browsing to check if we have a particular model before buying it, the collection would load much quicker - I think?

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
What about having the collection be in pages in say 50 models per page? That should help expedite the process. You can edit what information you want viewed with the current system.

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
Are you saying we can do that now (I don't think so) or suggesting a change? I think if implemented, that feature would definitely help. I would imagine that once the whole collection is loaded and you are working on a page by page basis, you wouldn't have to load the entire collection again.

Re: Database & MyCollection - What do you want to see?
So far I plan on
1. Paginating large collections and making the # of models per page configurable in your preferences 2. Auto adjust of my collection graphs based on # of price points 3. Alt Text on logos The ability to turn off logos is already in place, go to your preferences and (un)check Airline Logos and Manufacturer Logos. |
