Searching for sets in the database
Hi,
I have a special interest in model sets, and I'm trying to log my current collection of about 50 model sets on W900. However, there is no specific search criterium for sets. I tried several search methods and the best so far is to search for the words "model 1 of" in the remarks field. This returned 64 sets in 1/500. But some are left out, like: Herpa TNT Airways BAe 146/B727/A300 Herpa LTU B757/B767 StarJets Delta 3x B727 BigBird Aeroflot 3x IL-76 BigBird SkyMark 3x B767 BigBird RyanAir 3x B737 BigBird JTA Papas 3x B737 Netmodels Cathay Pacific 2x L-1011 Netmodels Blank 2x B747 On the other hand, some sets are returned 2 times because both models of the set are referred to as the first model of that set. This is the case with the Spantax/AfricaOne set (record 7132 and 7133) and the China Airlines 2nd version set (record 7936 and 7941). Isn't it possible to write a designated word in the remarks field for all sets. For example "model set". So that when you search for this word, all model sets are returned in the list. Also, in the record of a model that belongs to a set, a cross reference to the other models of that particular set would be handy. Just the hyperlinked database ID's would be enough. Kind regards, Gert. |

I'm all for something to tie planes of a set together somehow. I know the database isn't designed for sets, only individual planes, but it can make it hard to track down the other items in the set unless you know what they are. Take a Lufthansa Ju-52 (as an example), two versions come in sets (the Munich airport and yesterday/today set)... If you have the set, you know what the other planes in it are, but without it, you wouldn't and would have to search for the 'Munich' description in the notes of virtually every plane. It's not difficult at all IF you know what you're looking for already (take the MTU set... what's in it... if you didn't know, you couldn't even find out without asking... which isn't that tough), but if you don't, good luck trying to find it.
Maybe adding another field that is somethig like 'set: yes/no' and 'no' is the default or something like that that can be filtered and searched. True, the JU above and several others would show up multiple times since they're in multiple sets, but it would be a matter of searching a few dozen entries versus all entries (I think it would still be easiest to just ask in the forum myself to begin with). Or, depending on the programming complexity and time, a more involved 'set' field with the name of the set, if it comes in one, or 'none' if it doesn't and 'n/a' as a default for all single planes. |

I hope that helps. If you are missing any other sets just post it. Another possiblility to check which other models belong to the set is the part-number being identical for all models of one set. BTW the Cathay L1011 set is made by Starjets, and JTA Papas by Herpa. I hope it helps
