Hey, all you train collectors.....

Hey train collectors,

I want to add a train station to my airport, but want it to be more detailed than the herpa inter city express. So, does anyone know what train scale best fits 1:500 scale?

Re: Hey, all you train collectors.....

The best train that fits 1:500 would be the tiny T scale, 1:450 made by a Japanese company. They have newer ones coming out including the ICE but cost about 80 dollars for the tracks and controller and 20 to 30 dollars for the train.

Re: Hey, all you train collectors.....

I like these trains, you must paint them yourself, but that shouldn't be the biggest problem
Modulor:*TRAINS <<Model Vehicles, Planes, Boats <<Model Making

Modulor has got a lot of other things too, just like ships and cars/busses!

It's T Scale (TT Scale is closer to like 1:120), and it's a waaaaaaay better investment than that horrible POS herpa train (with herpa, you're paying for something with just asthetic function). From my source, it costs 60 bucks for the tracks and controller and the cheapest unit (Kiha 40, one car unit, is 27 bucks, the next train, a 4 car unit 103 Series is 45.99 and the most expensive is the totally refined Hankyu 9000 Series, at 70 bucks.) The ICE and Shinkansen are still on the drawing board, and good news for the ones that are waiting for American stuff. Mr. Hiari, the guy behind T-Gauge said that they are taking a good look to start making American stuff in the not too far out future.

There are two versions of the Starter Set (Track and Controller). The old version, which came in a unreasonably large box with the track assembled already and a Box with all the goodies. This came with the rerailer, Wheel Cleaning mechanism, a Switchback sensor (so the train can go back and forth if you chose it to, doesn't need a complete circuit).
The newer versions were supposed to omit the Sensor, and come in a smaller box with unassembled track, but from what I read, it looks like the Sensors are not omitted, and they also include an Energizer Pen (this is a good thing, as it helps clean the track better as well as the wheels.)

For those of you waiting for the next generation stuff, the Kiha 40 and Hankyu 9000s should be coming in to trainaidsa this week from what he said on the T Gauge forum at T Gauge Headquarters Home Page.

Here is his site, and according to his site, the Hankyus and Kihas are in stock! He also sells parts for those who want to replace something as well as looking into offering "Kits" for those who want to kitbash (make one thing into something else).:

Distributor & Dealer for T-Gauge (1:450 scale) the smallest model trains by KK Eishindo (Japan) - TrainAidsA (USA)

If you think the T Stuff is expensive. Wait till you start seeing the prices for Z Gauge (1:220). Now THAT's Expensive. The worst expense I have with T-Gauge is buying more track, due to a lack of a 2nd hand market for these at the time being.

As I've said, it is T Scale, and am a proud owner of a T Gauge set, and will be looking to start on a layout that includes a 1:500 scale air museum (plans are already down, now just got to start on building designs (don't feel like buying the Eishindo stuff other than trees.) The big issue is that Eishindo (whom I should add is the only manufacture) until recently did not have a station design.
Here is some pictures of a station design in the last post of this thread.

Of course, a station is not a hard structure to design. At least for a passenger station that is. Essentially all you need is a platform, for something larger you could include more platforms for more trains and as well as a station building. The hardest part will be making the platform to a reasonable height to at least have the doors be accessible to people. And even then, some stations do not have a platform that is at the same or similar level as the doors and is just a concrete strip to where a conductor or other rail employee puts a small booster step up for people to get onto the train.

I know when I made my station, it was basicly a piece of balsa for the platorm, and the building where the passengers enter is just 4 pieces of clear plastic and the roof is a piece of black construction paper.

Check this website, I posted it earlier:
Distributor & Dealer for T-Gauge (1:450 scale) the smallest model trains by KK Eishindo (Japan) - TrainAidsA (USA)

You may need to click "T-Gauge" on the left side under "SHOP" and then click on "All Items".

I got the set that he lists for 115 bucks, it comes with the starter track set and a 103 Series trainset (4 unit EMU.) I think it is a good deal, as it comes with an AC Adapter. Even better now than when I bought it as it comes with an Energizer pen. That helps keep the track and wheels clean (very important in model railroading.)

On the other hand you can buy the starter set track for 65 (it's listed further down the page down) and then order a Kiha 40 DMU or a Hankyu 9000 EMU set. If you go that way, if you dont' want to be running off of batteries, you'll need to buy the AC Adapter as he doesn't include it if you go this route.
