Hello,
I am a newbie to both this forum and to the plane hobby. I have started purchasing items off of ebay, and have gotten some deals so far but many of the planes are all of different scales. My question is- is it ok to have some different scale sizes in my model airport. Thanks, Cody |

Re: Different Scales
Likely not, the differences between 1:400 and 1:500 can easily be seen in most cases, you'd end up having 400 727-200s being the size of a 500 scale 767, and it easily appears so. Of course, if you mean something along the lines of 1:450 scale aircraft with 1:400 or 1:500, this can work out ok as the differences are not as visible in such cases.
Though 1:400 and 1:500 in the same layout can be used, but it would often require a large separation or some kind of work to make it more of a matter of perspective. But with most layouts being less 4 square ft, I wouldn't recommend the mixing of scales unless the are very close to each other.

Re: Different Scales
If your new to the hobby decide what scale you want to collect,
1:500 Are smaller and more managable for space, Theres some nice airlines in 500 that you cant get in 400 1:400 are larger more detailed and theres alot of manufacturers out there that always have something appealing 1:200 some nice releases out there by gemini jets in the last few months but there expensive, with a 747 in excess of $150 by if200 you wouldnt need to many before they fill a room, I started with 1:600 schabak , moved to herpa 500, moved to starjets 500 and now staying with 1:400 anything else is to big , expensive and un-collectible |

Re: Different Scales
Well, it is bad form if they're all over the map in scale.

Re: Different Scales
Right. The largest airlines come in is 1:72, but those are mostly the classic airliners from the 30's, like the Trimotors and DC-2/3

Re: Different Scales
Quite wrong there, the smallest that I know to be commercially available is actually 1:1000, and 1:600, though not as popular as it used to be is also still widely available. Perhaps even smaller are out there, but these are ones I know, and for their size, some are quite beautifully detailed. As for the largest, I have seen much larger than 1:72 scale, though these, as said, are typically smaller aircraft, though in some cases, these larger scales are specially handmade wooden replicas of actual jumbos in scales such as 1:50 and 1:30, though those cost real good amounts of money, and to come across them in the market is not a very frequent occurrence.

Re: Different Scales
Ok. But the latter are typically special order and not produced on a mass scale.

So far, I have found 1:48 Ju-52s, He 111s as well as a DC-3s by the Armour collection: Armour Collection 1:48 Luftwaffe Ju-52/3m - Wings900 ID# 9581 Armour Collection 1:48 Lufthansa C-47B-DK - Wings900 ID# 12870 Armour Collection 1:48 Lufthansa He 111 - Wings900 ID# 19331 And I am sure that there are still more mass produced large scale beauties not accounted for yet in the database, as it's a constant work in progress. But as far as larger scales above 1:72 scale go, unless you go for these types, you will start to run into fully handmade territory when you start to look at airliners.

Re: Different Scales
There was a civillian version of the He 111C, and was used by Lufthansa in the 1930's.
