Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Here are the plans that I generated for my metropolitan airport located somewhere in arizona, not sure where yet. Please leave me feedback on which plan you like better or any suggestions you might have. This airport will be set in late 90's and will be served by mainly domestic carriers but there could be a couple Mexican carriers as well. In terms of size, it is 96 in X 77 in. and will have a 200 ft wide(6 in wide) and a 150 ft wide (4.5 in wide) runway. In both designs the runways are set at a 50 degree angle from eachother but that could possible change to 20 degrees depending on which plan I go with. My favorite so far is the 1st plan simply because it provides a lot more terminal space.

The second one looks boring so take the first one!

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Choose carefully. The first one may offer more terminal space but keep in mind that in doing so it can also congest the airport unless the size is increased. I like the first design more just because intersecting runways scare me and I'm the type of person who sacrifices runways and extra space for more gates and a larger terminal. Since this is 1:400, I'd go with the first design for that reason as well. Can't wait to see the progress on yet another airport by SouthwestAirlines!

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

I see what you mean but my apron is going to be approx 84 in by 52 inches. Maybe a bit more, depends on how I build the entrance. There's going to be no problem with congestation, I am also altering the terminal layout a little bit. Also, this airport is mainly RJ's with some 727's, MD-80's DC-9's and a couple of 752's, A319's and A320's. I also don't fill my airports to capacity as it becomes unrealistic.

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Here are some pics from construction. I now have the apron and both runways painted. It's kind of confusing looking at but once I take the tape off, it will make a lot more sense.

I'm a big fan of diagonal runways--they add so much visual interest that they are totally worth the extra space required. Keep us up to date as your project progresses!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! If you look closely at the pics, there's already 3 or 4 different shades of grey down, it's kind of hard to see plus I still have taxiways, roads etc. Don't worry, if you look at my other practice airports, I'm doing similar ground work just on a much larger airport.
Here are some pics with the tape removed. Today will be taxiways and some grid work. Maybe some roads too.

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

What I think would have looked real nice would be the second design but with the first design's terminal. I like the crossing runways of the second design a lot.

I agree with you but the crossing runways took up a lot more space so I really couldn't use the 1st plan's terminal layout and have the crossing runways. Here are more pics, I am making fast progress on the ground stuff thanks to good planning and a new protractor.

Now that's turing to look more like an airport.
Any idea on what Mexican carriers are serving FLJR?

Thanks, not at this time, maybe a Mexicana or Aeromexico flight via Dallas or L.A. but nothing direct.

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Thanks! Speaking of pics lol, here's what I got today. I put on the road, did some patch work, and added flares to my taxiways at intersections. I also began the grid work which is going to take the longest amount of time; the section in the picture took me 40 mins to do! This is going to be a long project.
