This will be magnificent. I truly appreciate the amount of work involved in drilling the holes for 600 bulbs, but you will have one heck of an airport when all is said and done. Keep up the good work, and thanks for helping to keep the Model Airports section of this forum alive! pete

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Yesterday I was able to install threshold lights on runway 11. I decided to take out the old fiber optic lighting system off of Brookefield. The other half of Brookefield will receive the new lighting system in a couple months maybe longer. I am using the fiber optics for some of the in ground lights and maybe some of the approach lights on Frank Luke but the rest of the above ground lights will be fiber optic and I ordered an additional 100 last night raising my total number to 700+ plus bulbs.

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Here's my update from today, I finished installing the red approach/runway guidance lights on runway 11 and end of runway lights on the other runway. Tommorrow I am hoping to install the white end of runway lights on runway 11 and maybe the rest of the approach lights. Below are some progress pics of runway 11.

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

I finally finished the approach lights for runway 11 and have been working on the chasing stop bar lights but I can't find the video camera to get a movie of them flashing. Here's a pic Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport-imgp0007.jpg

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Here are some more pics that I took just now, I am getting at least 300 lights in the mail tommorrow so I drilled the holes for them so I can get them in afterschool. Like I said in another post, my stop bar lights have a chasing pattern but the pics don't show it.

Thanks,
It's 96 inches X 77 Inches.

I am announcing today that I will have indirect International flights to Frank Luke ex Aeromexico flights from Mexico City to Frank Luke Via LAX and vis versa for the return). These flights will be using a newly created isolated stand area in the square area on the far left side of the airport. That area will also be used for temporary parking of aircraft that have later flights and can not stay at the gate.

Here are some updated shots, I've been making slow progress because of mid-terms at school but I was able to get down and get some work done today.

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

I really like this airport and the lights are an awesome feature. I know first hand how much effort they are to put in, but they're totally worth the trouble. Keep up the good work!

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

Thanks for the comments! The lighting is taking a really long time but it's coming along. I have to get some more green and blue strands to complete the lighting and have to let a pretty bad burn on my right hand heal (hot glue can be a real bear sometimes).

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

It's been awhile since I gave an update on the airport but I have hit a bit of a wall with my blue lights, my order for 100 additonal rice lights has been cancelled due to a seller not having them in stock so now I have to tear out the blue lights I already installed and I am putting in blue mini christmas lights, just the tip. It will be extremly labor intensive but the end product should be great. The original blue lights will then be used for another display.
I am also adding an aircraft heritage museum under the train in the front of the airport, so far I have collected the Aeroclassic C-47 D-Day colors.

Re: Plans and Progress on Frank Luke Jr. Regional airport

This airport has been on hold for awhile but I finally have the time to work on it. I now have to widen the 200 blue light holes on the airport to facilitate the new lights that I had to purchase so that will take up whatever time I get to work on this airport for awhile but the lights are looking great and nearing full installation.
