Dubai International Airport 1:500 (in progress)

Hello Folks,

some weeks ago someone told me it would great to build an airport or something like this to get all my Emirates aircrafts in one row. So I startet planing DXB. Not the whole airport, just a short piece of Emirates teriminal with enough space to show all 8 Emirates aircrafts published by Herpa in 1:500.

Started with some Google Earth screens and drawings on paper to get an overview about dimensions and needed space for all modells. To realize how big the real dimensions are, I drawn a 1:1 chart to a bit piece of paperboard. Okay ... looks good and the permission of my girlfriend secured.

Go on with drawing and first pieces of the DXB terminal. First of all I made a 1:1 draft of the inner construction of the terminal and a 1:5 draft of the complete diorama base including measurenments etc.
After that on shiny sunday I rough cut the inner walls of the terminal ... so I will sharpe all pieces at once to get a clean angle at all.

Attachment 9594Attachment 9596Attachment 9597

That are the first steps in DXB progress. Stay tuned.

It's a start. You shouldn't build it on cardboard though unless you are planning on using foils because it won't look good when you try to paint it.

Looks good so far and it looks like your putting a lot of hard work into this, unlike some of the airports that have been seen on the site in the past few months, can`t wait to see the finished work.

No no no ... it's just a test to see the dimension ... how big it will be. Should be all made out of wood. Don't be afraid. ;D

I hope mine won't dissapoint you. I've put ALOT of hard work into my custom 1:400 airport. Just today I builtmy first building. I used Evergreen and I'm glad I did. The result is much better than I could've done with any other material.

Good job so far, Andre. I like the shapes on the third photo of what will be the contour of the building. I'm looking forward to see the exterior walls as I don't think that would be hard for you to make. This looks promising. Pls keep us updated.

Interesting username Looking good so far. Take a look at this:
Order Received for New Work (Finishe and MEP Works) for the Terminal 3, Concourse 2 and Car Park as Expansion (Phase2) at Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates
If you scroll to the bottom, there's a picture of one of the most amazing replica's I've seen - and it's Dubai airport It may give you a few ideas.

When I first started building mine it didn't look good in card board maybe you could use wood or some other material.
