First at all the LEDs won't flash ... still glowing continuous and they aren't mounted on a PCB. Like on a picture posted before you can see lil holes in the aircraft taxway. That holes are drilled for the LEDs which are inserted and fixed by glue by myself. So everything is free construction and not designed by any PCB etc.
Hehe ... 3mm LEDs are too big for that ... I know. They are also round on the top, so it wouldn't look as good as a clean surface. I found some LEDs which are adapted to my diorama at a german electronic shipping company. So I placed an order for that LEDs and some other stuff I would need for my work.

Picture by Reichelt Elektronik, (item number: LED 2MM FT GN (green))

The LED has a plane top and the top is only 2mm. So there are small enough for a 1:500 diorama but great enough to handle - not like SMD. (But I will use SMD too for some other parts of my diorama, later more about it)
Costs about 0,10€ each, but they are hard to find. Today I noticed that I have ordered not enough of these LEDs *DAMN* and I tried to get some at a small local electronic store but they have only "normal" LEDs. Have to think about what I should do or where to get some more LEDs.
Great, thanks for that. The one place I recommend is Rapid Electronics. They are great, cheap, and reliable. You can buy CMOS timers all the way through to corragated card. It is a great shop, its online too!

Great work!
It looks amazing so far!

Just wondering, could you tell me how you made the jetbridges? I'm considering building my own, and so far yours look the most realistic

Thanks, and keep up the excellent work!

The pivot point is made out of a wood stick with bulky wire for connection between gangway and gate. The gangway itself is made of evergreen profiles (4,8 x 7,9 mm) and intersection to the aircraft of molding clay. It is formed nearly the final form, baked at 110°C at oven and after cooling down, bonded to the gangways and sharped finally.
The stilts are made of half toothpicks.

Hey... I don't suppose it was this stuff is it? I just bought some of this from a mdel shop in Germany for my airport, I was actually going to use it to for the taxi/runway side buildings and porta-cabins. It cost me a fortune to send. How does it work if this is the stuff you have... any tips? ...

Thanks

Matt

Hey yeah ... thats exactly the same manufakturer, but I bought the "FIMO soft" instead of "FIMO classic" - don't know what's the different. May you should wear durex gloves because the clay will get fingerprints easily and maybe get dirty. (I have white clay)

After forming the clay take it into the oven and bake it about 30min. At the end you could shape it with dremel or by hand+sandpaper. If you're using a dremel to shape it, mention not to use to much pressure otherwise very small pieces will split - not that much, but even take care with it, so you will get perfect results with it.

Shaping with dremel is lil bit dusty ^^ My hands were white all over. ;D

Re: Dubai International Airport 1:500 (in progress)

So guys ... last update before my lil break begins. My brother visits me for a week and I don't know if I'm able to go on with building while he's here. Maybe I will work during his visit, but I don't know.
Don't wanna talk that much ... here's my last goody for now. Enjoy it and look forward to the end of my lil break.

Aviation related song, and describes your airport PERFECTLY:
"Take My Breath Away" - (Mary Fox, from Top Gun)
"The Best" - (Tina Turner)

The airport is a complete success, from start to finish ... well done indeed

Matt...
