Thumbs up Re: Dubai International Airport in progress

Nice start.
Whatever you do, if you want to paint, do use masking tape and spraypaint. Sloppy brush painting can ruin whole impression.

I experimeted with the Dubai terminal design some time ago, but came to the conclusion that the very special roof design is hard to do using balsa the way you do. Styrofoam is the best material to use for those strange designs. The use of balsa the way you (and I) do is the best method for 90% of the airports, but not in this case I think.

Thanks for your help ... wait a while ... I have some ideas about making the construct. I will make it and you know ... I will do my best.

Re: Dubai International Airport in progress

Currently, I use these huge solid light-blue block which enable me to file, sand and work to a perfect shape. I aquired them from the Graphic's Dept at school for FREE, but they are normally quite expensive. It is not normal styrofoam, it is of a much finer texture, and costs alot more, when I find the name, I'll post it. Many of you would find it useful. It is MUCH more versatile than Styrofoam.

Excellent Airport, As I Quoted Previously

Matt

Sorry for borrowing the tread. But Matt109; what did you use to stop it from fall apart after it got the correct form? and to be able to paint it.

Sorry, I am not very clear: when I say course, I mean the particles that make the foam are big/course/large. However, the foam I use, the particles are much much finer, this is how you can sand it, and take only minute pieces of foam off. I hope I have clarified this with you. And then you spray it with this spray liquid [not sure of the name, decanted from a bigger bottle at school] which stops solvents eroding/dissolving the foam. It enables my to spray it with conventianal spray paints.

The liquid only allows you to spray onto the foam without it dissolving it, it is not an adhesive. I'm not sure what the liquid is called at the moment as it was decanted from a larger bottle at school, and currently I'm on holiday. But when I go back I will find out the name, and PM it you. But I'll tell you: it is not a liqud you can just find at the local hobby/DIY store.

Dubai is such a beautiful airport and that model is a great depiction of it. One question, is that clear area in the taxiway actually clear in real life or is that just like a cross section?

Re: Dubai International Airport in progress

Soo ... back to topic! (maybe transfer posts to other Dubai Thread?!)
DXB is growing ...

... I was at the homeimprovment store to get some aditional things for it. So I bought 2 plates of MDF wood, some strip of pine wood and a packet of plywood.
After cutting the strips to the correct lenght, I saw a piece out of the upper plate to get some place to work inside the terminal (lights etc.). Later I have shaped the terminal contruct and prepared it to mount all pieces on the main terminal-strip.
So I have to go on ... but first we (my gf and I) want to go to gym, later meal and maybe I will go on after that ;D
