Smile My NEW Airport~ Comments Welcome!!

Hi Folks!

Just thought I'd show you some pictures, I will be painting the airport tomorrow (hence the masking tape covering), and will hopefully post some more pictures.

I am making another MDF board with another apron/terminal in a couple of weeks, which I'll also post!

Also, if anybody can tell me what to use for yellow taxiway lines that would be great. If I need to purchase something, can you please tell me where to get it. I live in the UK, so preferably a UK seller, but worldwide is just as good.

Hope you like them... the airport is built to 1:400, and all jets are made by Gemini

Comments welcomed- constructive comments/advice only, take you negative stuff elsewere! Your NOT wanted here.

Matt

Cant wait to see the finished result. Keep up the good work

Coming along nicely! Remember, spray on some light gray primer first....MDF is very porous and will show a little of the grain if you don't prime it. Get some Krylon or Rost-Oleum fro the hardware store...about 1.50 pounds....It will be well worth it.

I think you should show some of the grain. Concrete and asphalt are not plastic - they have texture and roughness to them. Airports with plastic shiny surfaces look unrealistic and a bit toylike. Even better would be to somehow incorporate oil spill and rubber marks. Aprons and runways are dirty places.

Nice airport plan though. It's a shame that at 1:400 scale you can never have enough space to have taxiways between the runways and terminals. What are you going to use for the buildings?

Is your airport located anywhere or a general showcase for your collection?

My airport has lots of inspiration from my local (EMA/East Midlands Airport, UK) airport, but I will ideally house more BMIs, and European Carriers. I am intending to make a HUGE cargo area: purely because I have quite a few large cargo jets. But that is just an idea currently.

The buildings: I will make them hopefully, but am not sure of sizes, so any help from anybody is appreciated, but I am contemplating buying unassembled paper/card buildings, but I'd rather make my own from scratch.

Thanks for the positive comments

Regards

Matt

Cargo planes are cool so a big cargo area will look great. I've been getting into cargo planes recently myself (I'm building a cargo area for Imogenia at the moment) and there are some interesting airlines out there flying freight. You're making me want to collect larger scale models!

Excellent preparations underway for the base. Don't be afraid of making your own buildings--having a custom result will be worth it. Keep up the good work! pete
