Follow the link to view progress made over the past several months on the Florida Keys Regional Airport. This project is far from done, but I would like to share what I have so far! FloridaKeysRegionalAirport - Home

Yes, I think landing on runway 12 would be like coming in to an aircraft carrier! Much more challenging is the hilly terrain with some rocky outcroppings approaching runway 9--this one would be best for takeoffs but jets land there as well!

Nice Airport! I saw a detail of the lighting but how does it look from above? I really like your airport though - I feel like it is a nice vacation spot! :-)

This should give you an idea of how the lighting looks from above--only the last 1mm of the Christmas light pokes through the board. For me, the effect is almost as good as the fibre optic systems, but only a fraction of the price. Also, since this airport is on six panels, each one has its own set of Christmas Lights -- each panel is self contained and can stand alone--this would be expensive with the fibre optic system

Re: Florida Keys International Airport--Phase I

That is really cool! great idea with the christmas lights too! I never thought of that! Nice Air Niugini A310. I wrote to a few 'dozen' airlines back in 1982 to get information about their company (post internet era) :-). Air Niugini's secretary hand wrote 2 or 3 pages about the airline! along with newsletters and postcards! The most positive response I got! I will never forget that! That is customer service! and I wasn't even a customer! lol. Most airlines never bothered to write back at all.

Re: Florida Keys International Airport--Phase I

I'm very impressed! The one thing I've noticed lately in most dioramas is a lack of imagination. Although I'm not a fan of pre-made airport ground foils, I think everything else you have done is outstanding. You've added the little touchs and the attention to detail that most others miss. Your use of night lighting, off-airport scenery, and general planning of this project is impressive and I look forward to seeing the progress that will be made. I've already bookmarked your site! Keep up the good work! Oh and post more pics when you can!
