Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

I generally follow what the actual airlines are doing with a few exceptions. Like I have an AirTran 737-700 without winglets when in reality they all have winglets now, but overall if a paint scheme is retired or no longer in the fleet then I retire or sell the aircraft. I may set up a boneyard diorama for my retired aircraft, that would be pretty cool I think.

Does it really make twice daily flights, or are you making that up? LOL. No, really.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

Well in the sense of model airports yes they do. I keep throwing them towards Minneapolis but they don't ever come back. It's starting to get expensive.

Delta takes almost all flights over. Some will be reduced except Atlanta Int'l.
Also some A330 routes will be downgraded to a 767

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

I think it is cool to be able to have a "current" airport and fleet, but I don't think one should get rid of the NW aircraft on their airports completely, I really liked the bowling shoe and new colors that they sported, seemed to add some color to the "paint it white" fad of other airlines. Heck, I still have some TWA in their last colors around... variety is good even if the airline is defunct.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

I have a few TWA planes as well as a nice selection of Pan Am aircraft. They look pretty impressive all lined up around my circular terminal. And they were the premiere airline for decades until their collapse, so their historical significance warrants a bunch of parking spots. I don't know of too many people who don't want Pan Am planes around. NWA (not the rap group) still has a huge following, and I don't think anyone will just can their model fleets; at least, I don't see the sense in doing so. Haven't I said enough already? LOL.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

Your idea is nice, but it means you need to be very updated all the time-means you need to buy all new models.
It means alots of money spent on brand new models all time long...right?

So with the Delta/Northwest merger and the end of Northwest Airline's existance, how many of you are going to update your fleets?
I buy whatever I like of models out there. Will it be bankrupt over time? I just take them out of display and put them in their respective boxes. Besides I only display the current airlines. Unless it's a fleet collection display.

As for the replacement of equipments on airports, I spent a few hours connecting my imaginary airport from Cebu, yes imaginary and when I got to the fleet of NWA aircrafts, I just included them on some routes with remarks Delta (by NWA) (That means they will still be kept operating in premerger scheme or Ex NWA scheme, along with the already painted Ex NW aircrafts such as the DLB744) On a side note, I can't believe I didn't purchase the NW fleet way before. I am starting to collect their current NW scheme, even if they had just merged with DL and some of it being repainted in DL scheme. I already have the NW744, A330 by Herpa, ordered the NW752WL and the 752NoWL all in current NW scheme.Whoever produced them, I'm gonna get me one of them, in one condition, they have to be 1:400 scale. lol I better get started before they are completely gone. NW lives on in our hearts and in our collection. Plus the intentions why I'm collecting them now is to collect a significant amount of NW models, that will be displayed in the same cabinet where I have the entire KLM fleet. It is a Blue versus Red co-operation, and quite frankly I think it will look nice, to have them side by side.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

Why keep the fleets up to date? Let your airport live it's own life. Mix Pan Am 747-100 with A380 and B707s that's the fun part. History...
Autentic airport buildings are more important. Not mixing Lego with Herpa buildings.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

It's all preference, I just choose to keep my airports up to date. I find ways to get older aircraft on them though.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

I believe in what most people are saying.
Thats still a main reason why we have vintage liveries and whatnot.
I have more Vintage Philippine Airline planes/liveried planes than the current scheme.
I also wouldn't sell my planes either, I like to think I cherish each and every one of them haha.

This is all just about preference and whether you want to base your airport on whats happening in the real world or what you would like it to be.

Ofcourse not everyone wants to use a 747-400 on a 80Nm Domestic flight. haha.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports

It's just cool to show the lineage of some airlines by having older and newer liveries hanging around your/my tarmac. I mean, we'll never see a lot of these planes again once theyeither change their real world liveries or they are scrapped. I haven't seen a Braniff DC-8 since the seventies, but I can see one in my collection -- at my airport. I mean, our airports aren't real, folks! Throw whatever planes you want to throw in there. That's the beauty of them being customizable and not real. You can do whatever you want. If I tried to keep my airport full of current liveries, then I'd be in it deep unless it's a real popular airline. Keeping a bunch of 1:500 scale Qantas planes can be a problem. I just got a Qantas 707 from the 2006 Advent Calendar. I'm gonna park it right by my other Qantas planes.
