Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
I might take my NWA out of my airport, but I'm certainly keeping them! I have a shelf for airplanes that aren't in my airport.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
My airport (currently under construction) has planes from every era, every airline (existing or not). I've thought about the minor problem some people have with displaying a Pan Am 707 next to an AA b757. I don't see it as a problem. Why not just categorize every airline of every marking and every aircraft type you have. Think of it as a display of a particular airline's history. I have my Starjets Lufthansa 747 (1980's colors) displayed at the same terminal with my Lufthansa 747-400s. It kinda adds color variety to the tarmac. Look at it as displaying a football team's memorabilia. There's a tone of them that have changed their look over the decades, and nobody ever finds it odd. I mainly categorize my entire fleet by size anyway. Color schemes don't matter. My smaller Lufthansa and KLM planes share the Southwest Airlines and Continental terminals because that's where you'd probably find them in real life anyway. hey don't look right sitting next to my Lufthansa A380 or the 747's and A340's.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
And unless they're paying me, I'm not replacing my expensive planes for anything. These things (as much as I love the hobby) aren't worth the money Herpa (and others) charge. I'm lucky to have the 80+ I have!! It took me a lot of selling on Ebay to afford all those planes and accessories. Besides, I just got a Northwest A319 and an B787. I'm not canning them because of what happens in the real world. Besides, maybe my NW Airlines planes have made friends with the others I own. They'd be sadif they had to leave. LOL. So, what I'm saying is don't $#!tcan your out of business fleet.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
My airport reflects what is currently happening in the airline world. When Delta stops flying NWA planes in NWA colours then I will make a change. Until then my airport still offers a twice daily NWA flight to Minneapolis (A319).

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
In fact, the Delta-Northwest merger will form a totally new airline that will only retain the Delta name. So really, after the merger, both airlines with cease operations.
I wouldn't replace neither my Delta/Northwest planes or not buy them. Last edited by flyer; 03-07-2009 at 02:34 PM. Reason: grammar |

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
Just keep the planes you want. It's not like the FAA or the NTSB is gonna come to your house for an inspection. I have a Lufthansa DC-3 parked at my airport-in-progress and 5 Concordes, too; plus that one plane you (Southwest Airlines) sent me the gear for (thanks again). Hell, you wouldn't find 8 KLM 747's at one termninal like you can with mine, so old airlines on the tarmac doesn't seem so odd considering that. My NW 787 is staying right where it is; on the tarmac and grounded just like the real 787. LOL.

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
I don't think I want to upgrade or sell. Having older planes at your airport gives it a more authentic and unique look. Anyone know if a ScanAir DC-10 would be considered an older plane?

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
I also have alot of TriJets at my airport 3 and soon there will be 7 .
Thornet28 Most DC-10s stopped service between 2002 and 2007 I'm Guessing. And they stopped production in 1988 But I will say the design is old. |

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
Your model airports should be your own. Personally, I think they should reflect commercial aviation heritage. There's a fair amount of aircraft disappearing from our airports (DC-10, L-1011, DC-9, etc.), so it's important to remember them in some fashion. Sure, the planes I mentioned show up here and there, but it's just that; here and there. I display my Lufthansas to show their heritage from the DC-3 to the A380. I think the only airline that doesn't fall into the older versus newer aircraft debate is Southwest Airlines (unless you have a smaller engined 737 in your collection).
And yes, I know this posting is similar to my other one above. Last edited by Jakfuki; 03-07-2009 at 07:29 PM. |

Re: Changing aircraft fleets on your airports
there are lot of airlines coming and going, changing or ending,etc... if you want your airport always to be updated, your work will never end.............
it is easier to build an airport and say this diorama represents the airport in year 2004 or 2005 or whatever year and finish it...and than foucs on building another airport or diorama |

Plus, I like the retros so much that it would be unbearable not to have a few DC-8's. DC-9's. DC-10's or Concordes sitting around ! ! I just wish there were more available in 1/500. North Central, anyone?
