Re: How do I get started?

I have also been in love with airplanes since I was a little kid, and been building airports for a while now.

Recently I launched a website for people looking for more realistic airport designs, on a budget, and with minimal skills to build them.

I have 1:400 and 1:500 airport designs, a couple of airport terminals, parking garage and cargo area buildings available. You can download for free the instruction manuals beforehand to check the level of difficulty for building these dioramas. Usually all you need to do is being able to build a box with balsa wood, and glue the building faces to them, and you are done. If you do not want to go this route, the airports are also compatible with all Herpa buildings and accessories.

You can check it out at:

http://www.airport-diorama-designs.com/

I also recommend the following sites:

Airline Museum Gift Shop: Airline Museum Gift Shop

Collectable Jets Home Page

Jetway Models, Gemini Jets, Dragon Wings, AeroClassics, Herpa Wings, Starjets, Jet-X

Welcome and good luck!

I would go with the Gemini Terminal and foil mat.

Re: How do I get started?

I would agree with MD11freighter bout the Gemini terminal and foil but if your on more of a budget there some 1:400 ground foils premade available on ebay, then you could use the airport designs terminal buildings etc but that of course is up to you

He wants a real model airport now so i need help. I've been visiting hobby shops (not much there) and doing research online.

- which brand? Herpa? Something else? What's common and has accessories that are easy to find and not too expensive...
- scale? 1:400 or 1:500? His little plastic planes are 1:400 i think (realtoy) but i know we'll be phasing them out for some serious stuff.
- what's a good starter kit? Something that has enough stuff to keep him busy until we can afford more stuff...
- best place to buy?

Thanks for any help - i've spent hours ont his and haven't gotten very far.
also try eztoys.com,jetcollector.com and airlinemuseum.com-welcom and enjoy.

Re: How do I get started?

I like the Gemini, but one thing keeps bothering me. Shouldn't the jetways be even with the windows? I mean, you're walking along the concourse and then you have to go DOWNSTAIRS to enter the jetway? Just an observation.
