2nd project: GLENDALE INT. AIRPORT
Hi fellows!
Well, this should be my second project. Hope you like it!! First of all, I wanted to show how easy is to build up a normal airport by using the easiest materials. I used simple paper for the ground, some pens for taxiways and ground markings and combined the Herpa buildings in a complete different way. I lack of material and space this was the best way to do it... GLENDALE Int. is in California and were are in the 70s as you can see! I've made a sum-up of airlines and aircrafts of that decade so it is quite real (besides the vehicles). You can find the curved main building with positions A1-A9, then the Regional part (with the 2 PanAms and the Aeromexico) with positions B1-B3 and in front of the main building the remote stands for Cargo and PAX aircraft counting from C1-C5. There isn't much space, but we just left the narrowbodie decade so the 747s must park at the two sides of the main building. Any comments welcome! ENJOY ![]() (Sorry for the quality, I had to downsize it...) Chris |

Re: 2nd project: GLENDALE INT. AIRPORT
slightly OT...
i'm kind of disappointed that the hexagonal herpa building has only one 'front' part. i mean the inside surface cannot be used airside, unlike the rectangular buildings whose four sides can all be used.

Yes, you're right, they can only be used in special constellations... Normally I would not use them at separate parts without tuning them up somehow... But I made an exception now.

as i've said before, you have a nice and creative layout. but i have one suggestion, but this may need a new foil, though: you can assemble half of the hexagonal terminal to form a semi-circle. then arrange the rectangular and semi-circular buildings along its sides. the layout should look somewhat like those at haneda: in the photo above, the pokemon is parked on a semicircular/ half hexagon terminal jutting out into the apron. the aircraft are arranged around it as seen in the next photo. and here are some more pics...i think these are better: HANEDA airport on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Haneda Airport on Flickr - Photo Sharing! you see the half-hexagon on this airport map: http://www.tokyo-airport-bldg.co.jp/en/map/?terminal=1

Re: 2nd project: GLENDALE INT. AIRPORT
Good job and a nice number of different models.
I guess the scale is 1:500.

I like your airport a lot. This is a creative use of different airport elements in an arrangement that we haven't seen before. Good job!

Re: 2nd project: GLENDALE INT. AIRPORT
Thanks hikouki! Indeed there are some examples I could use...
Exactly Julian ![]() Don't have enought 1:400 models to make such a combination, but I also lack of buildings of that size or haven't tried it to combine yet... Thanks all for your comments

Re: 2nd project: GLENDALE INT. AIRPORT
Seriously, I like how you use that hexagonal departure hall where you place its parts on different spots to form separated terminal buildings. Something that I've never seen before.
If I may say something, you could have made your vehicle way lighter. If I were you, I would make it dark grey instead of black in the future. We can take a look at standard Herpa foil below where the contrast between the vehicle way and the apron (where I put the red bus on) is not that extreme. Also, the yellow line shouldn't be disconnected by the vehicle way. Anyway, this is just my opinion. Great airport nevertheless.

Re: 2nd project: GLENDALE INT. AIRPORT
Thanks Angie!
Indeed, you're right! The contrast is too big... Honestly I tried to make it as easy as possible to build it up, and I only copied the streets (which are darker) and glued them on the much brighter apron... My next project will be better for sure
