Can we rethink user titles.

Hey guys,
With the recent wave of certain members making posts to boost their post count just so they can have a stupid little title under their name (a few had admitted to it), it had become rather apparent that it really is time we get rid of the user titles, or at least make it like on DA.C, where we can choose our own title if we wanted (to be honest, I'd rather have that than the first). I notice on DA.C we get to choose our title there, and actual users (not spambots) spamming the forum there is not as huge of a problem as it seems to be here nearly almost every week or two here.

I'm sorry for posting this, but this had become such a huge issue here, it really is killing the quality of the forum in my opinion, and I'm pretty sure I am not the only one who feels this.

I am sorry! I deleted my thread that was rubbish. My user name should now be "rapleywhoisannoyingandpointlessthismonthlikeba". I only started being like this since I persuaded my friend BME390 to make and use an account.

Dude, it isn't just you, and it isn't exacly a new issue. We're all really tired of it coming from other people who have done similar things in the past. If you're really sorry, then lets see you and your buddy improve post quality and stop turning threads into OT chat rooms.

I don't know who complains more you or Rammstein. It's kinda ironic considering both of you were the same people you are complaining about back in the day.

Well waffle, the difference is that I put some thought into my posts back in the day, and I can have people to back me up on that one. I'll admit I posted a lot, but I at least made an effort to make sure I contributed something useful to the forum, not take things all OT and to add, it had NOTHING to do with user ranks.

Should add that when the likes of Paul, kev and I took a break from posting on wings the last time that happened (Back in April), the ones complaining had transferred onto other users (who usually stay quite) who soon grew fed up with such users too.

The whole "user title" thing doesn't seem to serve a purpose, except drive the younger posters nuts trying to achieve a name that gets them nothing. What results from that is like what happened yesterday; you have one young poster posting on every forum including multiple topics within each forum, and not contributing very much at all. At times, the poster would post things without reading previous posts, so it would be pretty much redundant.

Taking away the user title sounds like a good idea. I think it will eliminate kids coming on and posting 35 posts in an hour just to try and get a new name.

That was not my intention!!! I'm just a chatter box! BME390 didn't read many other posts but he told me he will try to.

Yes I agree the user title should be made optional. I'd put "BA Fan" in mine. I don't think the amount of posts should judge on becoming an RJ Captain, ATP Captain etc. Posts are very different to flying hours!

Ah, an RJ Second Officer. That's crap. Avro RJs don't have second officers, only Captains and FOs. Being a Second Officer is like wearing the Dunce's Hat.

Anyone fancy a chat so I can build my post count up? I want to bypass RJ First Officer and become a Captain as they get to do the landings at London City

That's not a good idea. Although I was doing it, I didn't realise I was. It's a bit like "cheating". We've also been discussing that the user titles aren't important. Come and use the Chat though. I've never seen anyone online there before.

Let's not be too harsh on the lads. Fourteen years old and likes aircraft and collects little models of the same. All we see in the media is reports of teenagers getting pissed and knifing each other. Let's encourage them, not disparage them. They will pick up the forum etiquette soon enough.

Hey rapleylikeba and bme, I was fourteen years old and mad about planes once and look where it got me - 46 years old and mad about planes. Oh, and they have given me a good living for quite a long time now
