Air Fares Holy Crap!

Have you checked regular airfares this week. Trying to book some work related flights and crap, buisness class fares are now economy and business class are like First Class. As a family we cancelled Disneyworld and Disneyland for this year! I wanted to do some side trips off of the business trips, but now, I don't think so! Even Air Alliagant no longer has $59 & $79 fares, Southwest Airlines is no longer cheap! I can see the airlines suffering as many of us just stop flying.

Funny last week when I flew out of Chicago (ORD) when I checked in, they said one bag only, good think I already bought about six of my business trips back in January for this year. I cant change any of my flights now, as a one way fare is more than what I paid round trip for back in January!

Wow, I think that it is time for people to join a mileage club for a particular airline and get some miles. I recently joined milage plus by United. Most of my flights are paid for me by the company that I work for, the best part is that I get the miles.

It is a sad situation, but it is better in the long run that the airlines begin charging what it costs instead of hiding behind money-losing promotions. Prices were artificially low. I mean, last December in the two weeks preceding Christmas, there was a fare from Miami to Honolulu ($379 ROUND TRIP) for less than I paid from Chicago to HNL in 1979!! Eventually the overcapacity issue will be resolved, and general inflation/salary increases will allow us to catch up. And, I agree 100%--Southwest in the market that I live in is not cheap at all, just a little more flexible about rebooking tickets if you have a change in plans.

So the airlines have stopped giving away airplane tickets so they can make a penny. If you can't even drive across country in a car for 50 dollars one way why should you be able to fly that?

You guys are complaining about airfare!?!?!? You realize that airfare is actually WAY bellow what they should be. The reason they didn't go up in the past was because they were taking things away like Pillows, Blankets. (some arilines have not done this) Airfare should actually be about $100+ more than what they are set at now.

Read the individual threads

. Some of us were not complaining at all. In fact, both Waffle and I stated that it was time that fares go up to where they should be.

I do realize that there are many who do know but I was talking to thoughts who do not know about this. Thanks for the note though

mmmmmm ever get that feeling that it's about you and you don't clue in? Well Fares have risen and I did not state if it was a good thing or bad thing, just the fact they have risen and this has caused people to change their behaviours. As a consumer we decided to cancel our trips. No big deal, we did not see the value in those two vacations at those prices, so we choose not to spend that money at this time. Sure fares should go up, I believe in an open and free system, like any product or service, if your product or service has value and people, the consumer see the value then it's great and you will have consumers purchasing that product and it will be all good. If fares have been cheap or subsidized by meals and pillows as suggested by some, then raise the fares and see what happens.

I hear you, yes I belong to a frequency flyer program and my company pays for all of my expenses, however we do have budgets and I hate to waste money or over pay for something. The system here in Canada is a bit different from the US as the airfare is free with points, but the taxes, security fees, air port improvement fees, navigation fees, etc are paid over and above the airfare as they are not considered part of the free ticket. Sometimes it's cheaper to purchase a cheap (before $100 a barrel oil) ticket than use the free tickets.

Still better than nothing as I enjoy the free miles from my business trips. Still the cost is climbing as I have cancelled two trips so far and that side trip to Miami in November may be cancelled as well. Bad part, about sticking with the one program, you pay more as you end of only flying that airline or airline group and those fares!

Maybe because tickets were purchased awhile back and things haven't caught up yet? Maybe flights are being cut because of high fuel costs and then there are double the amount of passengers on a single flight?
