Re: Air Hostesses

Homogenisation of Cabin Crew Uniforms

It's not uncommon to hear the bemoaning of the loss of some of the classic airline liveries as the aviation industry has moved to more bland and predictable color schemes. Take, for instance, the laments regarding "Eurowhite" adorning the majority of new carriers.

Methinks much the same thing has happened with uniforms.

Here is a photo taken in Japan in 2007 with cabin crew representatives from the OneWorld Alliance airlines.

They are, from left: from American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malev, Qantas and Royal Jordanian.

Kinda the same- aren't they???

Here's one for members of the Aer Lingus "club" - those gals sure are gripping those shafts tightly.

There's an airline we don't hear much of, but the F/A's are pretty there. It's a beautiful country.

Re: Air Hostesses

I thought the IcelandAir pics might get our good friend Mr Herran back; then I realized he wouldn't recognize the carrier. He would know it as its former name of Loftleidir.

(Hey Doc, did you happen to ask Emil how to pronounce Loftleidir or Allegheny?)

I think that style and flair has been sacrificed in the name of the almighty dollar... what a sad turn of events indeed!

Sorry for the long absence - have been doing penance for taking a few days away for the Air Show in Melbourne. I wanted to continue from here for a reason...

Famous Air Hostesses

Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir - Prime Minister of Iceland

Johanna Sigurðardóttir was elected Iceland's first female Prime Minister on 1 February 2009; she also became the world's first openly lesbian head of government. She is currently that country's longest-serving parliamentarian, but once was a stewardess for Wahoo's favorite airline - Loftleiðir (now Icelandair).

She was active in the trade union movement from early in her professional life, presiding over the Board of the Icelandic Cabin Crew Association in 1966 and 1969 and over the Board of Svölurnar, Association of Former Stewardesses in 1975.
