Re: Air Hostesses

I've got a couple more Beatles - hostie pics to share but that will have to wait for now.

Today, the world's newest airline... V Australia!!!

Prior to V Australia's first plane arriving in Sydney this week, there was the handover ceremony at Boeing in Washington. Of course, Sir Richard Branson was there to receive his group's newest addition and to declare war on Qantas over the lucrative Australia - USA route.

The hostie in the pic is Catherine Blackbee.

Here are some additional shots with the cabin crew...

And this one with some cheerleaders that were there for the occasion - not really air hostesses but... well, Furry knows why!

PS - as best I can tell from the pics I have seen so far, the uniform looks identical to that worn by Virgin Blue. Will post some for you soon.

Another Pan Am hostie - as the Fab Four arrive at Idlewild in 1964.

That's right - a big crowd had come from far and wide to see the new child, the one they called the Messiah - Brian. The Beatles were in transit and this opportunistic photographer spotted them amongst the huge crowd, and took this snap. His editor was so enraged that he missed the shot of Brian that he sacked him on the spot!!!

Here's another... (I will be away tomorrow)

You have to look carefully for this one, but there is a BEA hostie just inside the door as the Beatles arrive at Prestwick in Scotland. Ringo once held a little sign reading "tles" on the steps of another British European Airlines aircraft , emblazoned with BEA on the inside of the door to spell "BEAtles"!!!

I am not a big Richard Branson fan, but I will never complain about his choice for flight attendants

Why not another?

Here are the Beatles at London Airport on 7 June, 1964. Just in from Schiphol and heading (via BOAC) to concerts in Hong Kong. Ringo is missing - I think with tonsillitis.

The hostie is Anne Creech - a fellow Liverpudlian - and George looks like he is loving the attention he is getting.

I used to have a BOAC flight bag identical to the one John Lennon is holding!
I believe that was a sessions drummer named Andy White. What a lucky "callup" from the minors.

Andy White played drums on Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You. Sorry to lead you down the primrose path.

Jimmy Nicol!!! John Nichols was a champion ruckman for the mighty Blues! Wires crossed again - a bit like the time I did that hepatectomy - no wait that's not the word...

The top celebrates TAA's new uniforms in 1970 and the bottom an ad of similar vintage from Ansett welcoming the pending arrival of its new B737's.
If the hostess was out of uniform, I could give a crap what airline I was flying on
