Re: Air Hostesses

Once a year they have Gay Mardi Gras in Sydney. I think it was Air New Zealand that used to operate a special male-only drag crew flight from SFO for the event (please correct me anyone if I'm wrong) - but I'm sure Kevin doesn't want to see pics of that!!

Instead, here are some of the cabin crew from a recent flight of mine, sporting the new Qantas uniforms. These are literally brand new - the airline introduced them to coincide with the commencement of operations with the A380. They have done away with the red-brown colors (symbolic of the arid red interior) and gone with a muted grey-blue color, but still with the Aboriginal motifs. All of the hosties I've spoken with like it much better. It looks terrific on the girls with blue eyes too - IMHO it's a winner!

Compared with the old uniform. The black blazer has been retained.

Re: Air Hostesses

This one, you gotta love, Kevin!

Just about any Aussie of my vintage or older would know this face. This was the face of Trans Australian Airlines (TAA) for about 25 years. Her name was Nola Rose, and the story goes that she was "discovered" on Bondi Beach in the 50's and became the face of the airline after a black and white photo shoot. This picture, which adorned travel agencies the length and breadth of the country, was painted from the original photos.

Her photo appeared on timetable covers over the decades, with the uniforms updated but the face always the same.

Ah Furry, you are a right bugger!!! Now I will have a summer project. The advertising agency that ran the campaign went bust decades ago. This will be a real Sherlock Holmes effort - wish me well!

Nice one, Chris!!

Whilst I'm on this Aussie kick, here is a shot of JetStar cabin crew in the much less formal look of slacks and T-shirt preferred by LCC's.

Well Doc, you're getting closer - this time it's just the middle one I'm not so fond of.

That's a promise my friend. If you search back far enough you will find tons of US stuff in this thread (lack of US during Olympics was a mini-protest against all the nationalistic chest-beating that goes on) In fact I have tons of nostalgic pics from the USA but I never seem to find the time to start where I want - with a little treatise on airline history. Let's see if I can get it done over our summer holidays in January.

Here's one for you...

And one for Kevin...
