Day 4 Beijing Olympics 2008

Romania won its first gold for these games on Day 4. Romania has been attending the games since 1900 and is second only to Hungary in total medals won for a nation that has never hosted the games! Usually it is gymnastics that we associate with Romanian gold but yesterday, Alina Dumitru won her country's first gold medal in judo (48kg event).

In tribute, today's hostie is from TAROM, Romania's national flag carrier.

For those of you who don't recall TAROM, here is one of the more famous pics associated with the airline!

I was spellbound when this Romanian won it all....., so much so that I named my only daughter after her.

So is my little girl.......But her room's always a mess...

Are those oompa loompas?

Doc, has any other country besides an Oriental country win at the Olympics? All I see you post is an Asian F/A. Don't get me wrong, very pretty, but didn't like Mexico or Lichtenstein win yet?

Re: Air Hostesses

Way too many pics being posted that have already been done!

Sorry no post yesterday - looong day at work.

So two today...

Day 5 Beijing 2008

The first gold medals going to horses were won by Germany. An impressive result with gold for the individual eventing (Marius with his dentist rider), team eventing and team dressage.

In tribute, a flashback to the glamour years of Germany's flag carrier, Lufthansa.

Day 6 Beijing 2008

Mongolia won it's first gold medal of the games when Tuvshinbayar Naidan won the 100kg Judo event, pushing Kazakhstan into silver position.

To commemorate the event here is a pic of Mongolia's national airline - MIAT.

Here's one for the Brits and a new one at that!!
May not be a glam shot but a significant one.
This is the British Airtours crew that at Leeds/Bradford on Bank Holiday 28th May 1985 had an alarm go off on their fully packed Palma bound Tristar. They evacuated the full load of pax in under 80 secs with the training time listed at 90!! There was nothing serious thankfully but an interesting story from this was one little boy who came down the emergency slide liked it so much he asked a FA if he could have another go!!!

Day 7 Beijing 2008

With Great Britain in overall third place on medal tally (how long has it been since we've seen that???), and Britain taking out gold, gold, gold on Day 7 in the velodrome (Mens Team Sprint, Women's Individual Pursuit, Men's Individual Sprint) - of course I have something for you...

In a tribute to British glory days and a trip down memory lane, today's pic is from Laker Airways

Day 8 Beijing

A momentous time in Olympics history with Michael Phelps of the USA breaking Mark Spitz's record haul of 1972 with 8 Gold Medals in the one games and a personal tally of 14 olympic gold medals.

To commemorate the event, a stewardess from 8 different American airlines.

Aloha

Northwest

NorthWest Orient

WestJet

PSA

US Airways

United Airlines

Continental Express

And as a special bonus to Captain Wahoo, and in special recognition for the USA coming second to China in these games, a pic from one more airline...

AirForce One

Re: Air Hostesses

Day 9 Beijing 2008

Jamaica's sprinters swept the field when the women took gold, silver and silver in the 100m dash, only one day after Usain Bolt took the Men's 100m final by a landslide and made it look like he wasn't even trying!!!

What a powerhouse of sprinting!!! Look out for the 4x100 relay!

To celebrate this incredible result, today's airline is none other than Air Jamaica.
