Re: Air Hostesses

There was a male F/A I flew with one month when I was a F/O in the ATR. The captain, the F/A (Chuck) and I went out for dinner in Toledo, OH during our overnight.

I was saying at dinner how I was a big Cubs fan and loved to go to Wrigley Field and see games. Chuck was saying how he loved to see the Cubs and go to Wrigley as well. Chuck said to me (When Dan our captain went to the bathroom) that "we" should go to a game sometime. I said "Sure I'll ask my girlfriend if she wants to go". Poor guy had a deflated look on his face when I said that and said "Oh....ok, we'll have to see".

The next day when we were flying I told Dan about dinner and what Chuck said. So Dan asked with a smirk on his face, "So when are you guys going to the game?" I said we weren't! Dan asked "Why not he has a cute toupee."

Comic Book Hostie.

Now I'm sure that's not what she should be handing out.

Re: Air Hostesses

I can hardly wait to post a few of the pics from my trip here - but for now here is one that shows the sort of service you get from Singapore Girls these days - only from PanAm in the 50's.

Re: Air Hostesses

I think the exchange rate from Aussie dollars into Euro is why the pics are so small!!

Today's offering is an Aussie one - Rex , or Regional Express which services many of the smaller rural destinations in southern Australia after the collapse of Ansett. Their fleet is mostly SAAB 340's but the hosties are excellent.

Re: Air Hostesses

Paper Doll Air Hostesses

Most of you will be too young to remember paper dolls. My sister had some. You bought the book, cut out the figures and dressed them up. Very retro - 50's and 60's.

Air hostesses figured very prominently in these books as it was a very glamourous and exciting potential profession for young girls.

Re: Air Hostesses

Not strictly hosties, but these air servicewomen provided comfort and nursing first aid to the wounded in WWII. When the USA entered the war, air hostesses (who were trained nurses back then) were called upon to join the nursing corps, opening the way for other young women to become air stewardesses.
