Korean Air hostesses were taught martial arts in case of a terrorist attack on board flights bringing the world to Seoul.

...especially considering the fact that KE, like most East Asian carriers, almost never hire male FAs. Many in Korea, Japan and Taiwan consider it derogatory for males to work as cabin crew. Carriers from these countries hire male members only when the destination country requires it. And even then, they are mostly only on galley duty.

Re: Air Hostesses

Doc can i just say congratulations!!! Over HALF A MILLION views on a single thread. I think it's an amazing achievement and i feel it's well earned. I'm guilty of sometimes taking this thread for granted, but i do realise that a lot of work goes into every post. To put it into perspective here are the top five threads by views after this one:

Wahoo's Winter Wonderland-59000
Oh bugger- 56000
Show us who you are with-21000
Rex Fleet photos-19000
RAAF -19000

I look forward to seeing W900 first 1'000'000 hit thread.

The only way i can show my appreciation is with the Reputation button.

Well done chum

Re: Air Hostesses

Thanks fellas for the kind words. Sorry that I have been so busy these last 2 months but school hols here now, so hopefully I can get back on track...

Hosties in Architecture #1

The village of Tollerton near Nottingham has only one pub - the Air Hostess !

The pub has a fibreglass sign outside with a 1960's styled air hostess depicted. When the hotel was opened in 1966, two real air hostesses were flown up from Birmingham Airport to add a touch of glamour to the occasion. The pub's female bar staff used to wear air hostess uniforms. Tollerton is the site of Nottingham Airport and if you want to drop in, you will find it at Stanstead Ave. Landlord, Steve Marshall, retains the original 60s style and hosts Curry night on Tuesdays, Quiz night Wednesdays, Steak night Thursdays and live bands on Sundays.

Re: Air Hostesses

At last my uploader is working again and I can share this beaut pic from TAA of the 1960's with you.

In the background is the B727-76, VH-TJA "James Cook" as she would have looked from mid-1967.

Re: Air Hostesses

A rare one from DownUnder...

Impulse Airlines (many of you will know the striking blue liveried B717 with the cockatoo on the tail) with cabin crew wearing the 2000 uniform. Very reminiscent of stewards onboard ships in the 1920's!!!

Re: Air Hostesses

This has got to be one of my favorite all-time uniforms - Hughes Airwest from the 1970's.

It looks more like a superhero outfit. It's even got a cape!!!
